I am considering ISU, SIU, Frontier, and Maryville for their FNP programs. Regarding the one year experience, is that one year as of applying or one year prior to enrollment? I need to apply by 2/1/13 for fall start and my one year is met in June. so I would be over one year when the courses started.

I would say one year of experience....before you apply since its an application requirement++++Why not contact them and ask before you invest more time in the process.. Good luck to you whether it is this year or next!!
I have but sometimes it takes awhile to receive an answer. Just wondering if anyone had any ideas. Thanks

For ISU its one year of experience before taking any classes with a clinical component.
Thanks. From Ball State
So I take that to mean I could apply! From what I read also, the 2015 doctorate requirement is not a mandate only a recommendation as of now. Do you agree?
Yes, you should be able to apply. I cant speak for every program but ISU has no plans to offer an entry level DNP program for the forseeable future. They do however have a post-masters DNP.

The key word in the sentence is a full year before CLINICAL courses. There are core course requirements that will have to be fufilled before going into clinicals depending on the program these courses could take a year to complete so you should be fine. In all acutality, you could've taken the core courses for the master's program right after completing your BSN. Doing the FNP program full-time, I wish I had known this. I, too, thought I needed a full year experience before taking any courses. After talking to the professors at the interview, I was told that this was not so. As suggested above speak with a school representative but I think you will be fine.
