Published

hello NY!

I am a prenursng student, currently living in Austin Texas; I'm coming to Manhattan for one single day; I regularly take care of this guy who is wheelchair bound, and now is travelling to NY, for a conference

I will have all day by myself!

Any suggestions on priorities for visiting?

much to do in too little time, so any suggestions would be appreciated

I have lived in NYC for 18 yrs, all of my life basically, I highly recommend seeing Times Square it should be your first stop. If u want to see a broadway show go to ticketmaster.com, go on NYC circle line which is a boat tour around the city around $24 , By a metrocard at any train station you will need it to get around and try to get a subway map. Have fun!

Wow! That is a tough one. I used to live right outside Manhattan and spent at least 3 or 4 days/nights a week there for either work or dinner/show etc... Where are you staying? Uptown? Downtown? You don't really need to pre-purchase tickets if you want to see a show...Several have seating for shows during the week if it is not an evening show. Just explore the theater district for that...There are also lots and lots of off-broadway shows to see. My 3 favorite things to do with a newbie are the Empire State Building, Shopping in the garment district, and Little Italy for food.

I recommend a cab if you will be alone or walking. It is really not that difficult to navigate if you have a good map. We used to walk everywhere when we went, provided it is nice out. Maybe someone here can meet with you and and/or help you out.

There is sooooo much to do in the city that just picking a few things would be my suggestion. Try not to kill yourself doing too much or it won't be as nice. Are you going to be completely alone all day? When are you coming? Spring time in Manahattan is spectacular! The park is incredible...

On and On and On......Blah-Blah-Blah.....

Thanks so much!

I am staying at Ritz- Carlton- no idea if it's up or downtown. Now, don't get me wrong- I myself have limited income; it's the person that I take care of, that is well-off

I'll be coming Monday night and leaving Wed morning; I have Tuesday all by myself, from, say 10 in the morning till night; whenever this person decides to check in for the night, I gotta be there to help him.

Are u saying that there are shows during the day? do u have any websites?

I'll do the ESB, the ferry boat, Little Italy and Times Squares; does this sound feasable? Maybe a show? if I can get more info

but no shopping for me; I am 40 and somewhere along last 10 years, I lost the patience / interest/whatever

Is it safe to walk about during the day? taking cab rides? Funny, I assume it's pretty safe, but again what do I know?

Can u really hail cabs? reminds me of old times back home; I was born and bred in Europe: not done here in Austin

Thanks a million!

1. The Ritz is in Midtown, near times square which is the heart of midtown, knowing what part of the city the events are in is good whether they r downtown, midtown, uptown, the village etc... it helps!

2.Ticketmaster.com for tickets, citysearch.com ( great website) for things to do. circleline.com for ferry tickets click on schedules and scrool down 2 see prices, nyctours.com is a good site also.

3. Little Italy, Times square, Chinatown, etc.. are all free u only pay to get there whether by cab or subway which yes u do have to hail just like old times. subway is $2 in each direction you'll have 2 buy a metrocard if u plan on taking the train or bus.

4. Manhattan is very busy in the day especially if your in Midtown u will see so its o.k 2 walk around in the day, in the night its probably better to be off the street u know just for safety reasons none in particular

Join the one day tour...about $90....you will see more than Times Sq. or Little Italy...you can go for a Broadway Show at night....

I hope you will enjoy it!!!!

Have you thought about visiting the museums? Maybe the nerd in me is showing; but, I find spending some time in a NYC museum (depending on the mood-art, natural history, planeterium) an extremely relaxing experience. Isn't the "bodies" exhibit showing at the seaport now? Has anybody seen it?
