We are reformatting our call schedule at my hospital. If anyone can share how their call works-- how many shifts, what the shifts are, how many team members? It might help open up some ideas that we haven't thought of.
Also, curious if you've heard of a max number of call shifts that can be required by the department? I'm in Oregon so I'm sure there's something state to state, but the language is difficult to navigate for Oregon labor laws.
Thanks! Any ideas or answers help (hopefully!)

Our call during the week is broken into 8 hour blocks, 3p-11p and 11p-7a, 2 teams on call with 2 teams in house (level 1 trauma). Staff of around 80 expected to sign up for one call shift per week (some can skate by without having to sign up as there aren't quite enough shifts per staff member). Any open slots after sign up closes are assigned to those who didn't sign up.
On the weekends, we have 1 team on call 7a-3p, 2 teams on call 3p-11p and 2 teams on call 11p-7a plus another ST on call 7a-7p. Weekends are divided into 3 teams. Staff can expect to have a combo of up to 3 shifts per weekend, 1 call 2 work, 2 call 1 work, 3 call. Depending on the size of the team (we did expand our FTEs so some teams have additional members while the teams that don't have additional members will grow when current orientees complete orientation) most end up with a total of 1 shift, or 1 shift work and 1 shift call.
I am not familiar with anything limiting number of call shifts at a legislative level.

Our call shifts are 1715 - 2345 and 2345 - 0645 M-F. Sat/Sun they are 0700 - 1900 and 1900 - 0645. They take as much call as needed to cover all shifts. Extremely short staffed right now so I think people are taking at least 9 call shifts in a month for RNs. I'm per diem so I'm not required to take any call since we are not paid time and a half for call like core staff is. I still take a shift or two if someone calls in but I don't have to.
Edited to add: I don't know of any max shifts of call one can take. I've never heard of that.
