Olivet Nazarene or Chamberlain MSN/FNP

Trust me, I have done my homework on both colleges. I have searched these forums endlessly on feedback but a lot of it is outdated. I have compared the non-for profit (olivet) and for-profit (Chamberlain) FNP options. It kind of has me worried in job outlook who is more willing to accept what education you have gone through.

So my question is has anyone gone through Olivet and feel this is a good route? For those in Chamberlain are you feeling like it was worth it? I was also thinking future wise if I were to continue my education is it true most standard colleges will not take for-profit school credits? I know I could apply for somewhere "better" so to speak but my gpa came close to everyone's cut off requirement (rough family times during BSN hurt this) and these 2 places were able to accept it. Really trying to weight also going back into more debt...JOY! Any input would be appreciated!

Hi @ERLaw14, we may become classmates later on. I've been admitted to the FNP certificate program of Olivet Nazarene. I'll be starting the 3Ps courses on February 2016.

They give you a large bulky packet of preceptors with no phone numbers. Most of them located in Bourbonnais and surround areas. So far I have used my personal connections.

I am working full time and have a family with 4 kids. Up until patho everything was very manageable. Now with pharmacology I'm feeling over my head but still getting through. Lowest grade yet was a B+ (missed the A by less than 1%) if you prioritize your time you will be fine but kiss any social life goodbye í ½í¸Š

Hi @CrazyMidget428, thank you for your comments regarding the ONU FNP program, and work-life balance. I will be starting the FNP certificate program on February 2016. I need to still complete the 3Ps courses. I'm worried that it's only 6 weeks long for the Patho, Pharm, and Health Assessment. These are foundational courses. I want to make sure that I have it down.

Could you share with me the syllabus for these courses?

Also, are you all set for your clinicals? Or are you still finding preceptors for the other courses?

Thanks.

Hello @cherub_myrrh, RN

i am starting the program on Feb 22 too and I just found out that I have to take statistics. Are you taking it through Olivet? If so, how is it?

Hope you can help,

Thanks

Hello CrazyMidget428; could you share your feelings about the teachers and overall experience? Do you have access to them when needed? Is it easy to contact everybody?

Thank you,

Hi Huapi, I am in the FNP certificate program. I already completed the statistics portion through my Prior MSN.

Hello, I am considering starting the FNP program May 2016. I also have a family with three little kids. I plan to go part time at work. How are you finding the balance of it all? How are the classes? Do you have access to professors and any needed resources? Any feedback would be great as I am VERY nervous. Thank you.

I will be starting the program at Olivet and a few months. Please let me know how things are going so far as there are some negative things here on allnurses regarding this program!

Hey everyone! Starting Olivet FNP program soon. Working part time and going to go through the classes full time- with two kids under 5. How many hours per week are you studying/homework for the first year?
