Older version of NCLEX review ok?

I've seen it recommended very frequently that students begin studying for the NCLEX at the beginning of their program, rather than waiting until the end. I start my ADN program in the fall, and I'd like to get an NCLEX book now to use as I go through my classes. The previous (6th) edition of the Saunders book is significantly cheaper than the current 7th edition. Would the 6th edition suffice for now, or has the test really changed that much in a couple years? My program will require me to get whatever the current edition is during my second year, so it's not like I'll only be using this older edition before ultimately taking the test. Should I be ok using the 6th for now?

Yes. The test bank is tens of thousands of questions, you can use anything in any of those NCLEX prep books at this point just to get familiar with the format and to develop strategies for answering those kinds of questions. In time over the course of your program you will learn what you need in the way of content to answer those questions correctly.

To be honest I don't happen to be one of those people that thinks it's a good idea to start with an NCLEX book at the beginning, before you actually KNOW anything yet. My opinion, of course. I know the idea is just to get used to it all but it seems like it'd be a venture in total frustration for the student who doesn't yet know what the question is even asking yet.

But to answer your question, yes, use the book that's only an edition old, it's no problem. Good luck!
