Oklahoma RN to Cali RN?

Published

I'm originally from SF but will be transferring to OK with my family (my husband is in the service). I will start the RN program in OK and probably get my license there, but I do plan on coming bank to CA and get my RN there too. Does anyone know how that works? Will I have to take the CA board even though I've passes the OK one? Just curious.

The NCLEX (licensure exam) is nationally standardized (there is no "CA test" or "OK test" -- there's just one test, and you take it in different places) and you only have to take it once. Once you're licensed in one US state, you can apply for licensure in any other state, at any time, and they will accept your previous test results. If you have a valid OK license (when you're ready to move back to CA), you won't have any problem getting a CA license. It's just a matter of supplying them the information they need, paying the fee, and waiting for them to process your application and issue a license.

Also, make sure you obtain at the very least an Associates degree from your school. That has set me back at least a year, I moved from California to Tennessee and am now completing my educational deficiencies online to get my degree from my original nursing school . Music Appreciation by the way. I hope Tennessee doesn't expect me to sing to my patients because if that's the case, no one will be feeling any better!
