I'm anxiously awaiting to here if I've been accepted for the June class. Did anyone else apply for June? I'm wondering when the orientation will be and how long. I can't wait!!

i am in the ou program and will graduate! however, it is a strictly online program...you will have no instructors! imagine learning nursing by yourself...getting a quick degree is really not the way to go. try looking into other accelerated bsn programs in the san diego area that actually have instructors and classroom time. csu san marcos and azusa pacific university. the morale among university oklahoma students in san diego is extremely low and most of us are just looking forward to being done with it! please be careful when choosing this program...it is definitely flawed and just started fall 2007 and still trying to administratively iron out kinks. your course instructors are all from oklahoma and you have only email interaction from them. yes, you do have real nurses in san diego that you get for clinicals but that's not where the testing comes from...beware!!! nursing is too important to rush through an online program. i will however feel confident in passing the nclex but wish that i had done a traditional bsn program =) also, the program has lost it's stay at sharp cabrillo so we do not know where we will be anymore...no physical school and no instructors...great! what else will they throw at us...it's borderline unethical. good luck everyone!

I have to agree that the morale at the school is very low. I started in Fall 1008 but dropped out and decided to wait until Spring 2009. However, Kennessa hasn't sent me any emails regarding orientation, etc. She just called me and told me that the orientation was on Jan 7 and 8th and that she'd send me an email with info. So far, no email and no real responses to my emails or phone calls.

I'm seriously thinking that the school is a waste of time in so far that it really lacks professional management. Everything is so "last minute". Perhaps I shouldn't even bother and just look at a MS in Healthcare Mgmt/Long Term Care? Any other thoughts out there?

No, the school has not lost its lease. Sharp has decided to not renew the lease of the location that OU is, which is a skilled nursing facility. The poster above had the incorrect information. Phyllis emailed this as soon as she found out. So, Sharp is trying to find OU a new place to live. Other alternatives may be Southwestern or SDSU since these schools are part of OU as well.

I agree that sometimes the schedule can be a little unorganized however I try not to complain because I am getting my BSN 8 months from now. I waited two years until I finally heard from Grossmont and I am too excited about becoming a nurse to worry about the stupid stuff that I cannot control such as schedules, etc. I believe I will pass the NCLEX with flying colors and that I will be a very good nurse. I think you should give OU another shot. I don't believe moral is low, perhaps you are surrounding yourself with unhappy people. I try to ignore those people because I have to live with them no matter where I am, work, school, etc. But the choice is ultimately yours. Don't let other people's experiences shape yours.

You are welcome. I am the same way, Type A personality and I am a planner. But I have learned I have to let go of the worry and frustration when it comes to scheduling, etc. I think that you are right, because you are someone who has already been in I think they figure you know it all. You don't have to sit through that stuff again which if I were you I would be thankful, LOL. My friend skipped semesters (she started 1st semester in the spring and completed it and then began second semester in the fall, skipping summer). She was not told as to whether or not she was "allowed" to start again until a week before we started the semester. I think this was because they wanted to know how many people accepted and enrolled, etc.

Also, keep in mind, a big deal with the schedules has to do with Sharp. I have heard it is pretty difficult to get students placed in the appropriate clinicals and it takes forever for them to come back to OU so that is why I have learned to be patient as well. The person who used to do the clinical scheduling is no longer doing it so we hope we will have better communication with the new person as well. We have stressed this in the BRN meetings and Phyllis and Kennessa said they would be implementing a newsletter to better communicate. The great thing about this program is that because the staff is so small they know everyone and I feel they listen to us and make changes based on our needs.

I hope you figure out what is best for YOU. I know the first semester is crazy and you feel like you lose your footing quite often because you are figuring it all out but once you get to the end of first semester you figure things out like how to navigate ANGEL, how to answer exams, how to write care plans, etc. Time will fly and before you know it, you'll be done. Personally, I think I could teach myself much better and more efficiently than any nursing instructor I've ever met.

The exams are NCLEX-style multiple choice, some classes require papers and some require power point presentations. I feel I have had a great clinical experience with very good instructors.

you mean like a powerpoint you email to the instructor? or actually presenting to your clinical group or cohort or whatever? also how big are the clinical groups? there's no way the whole class is on the floor at the same time. that would be crazy.

Both...we had to do presentations in our clinical group on different diseases, etc and for some classes we have to post them to a discussion board for our classmates and our instructors in Oklahoma to view. The clinical groups are 6-8 students each.
