there isn't enough nurse/patient interaction. They just run around the room getting supplies for the surg tech and surgeons and take inventory. At least this is what I've observed today in my surgical rotation. There seemed to be one nurse to do all the pre-op, one for peri-op and then one for post op. I might enjoy the pre-op or post-op, but I think I was expecting something different for surgical nursing. I greatly enjoyed taking care of the patient for the hours following surgery though. Has there been a rotation/unit that you know you will not go into when you graduate?

It was horrible! In fact, one of the nurses said, "If we talked like this anywhere else there would be a sexual harrassment lawsuit, but not here!" It made me feel uncomfortable just being in the room. I felt like I should have said something, but I was just a student observer. In retrospect, I should have walked out. I am going into nursing to help people, not to treat them like a piece of meat and make them the butt of nasty jokes.
