I wanted to start a thread for those who are starting to apply to the local Portland nursing schools for 2009. Maybe state what school(s) you will be applying to and where you are in your process. I'm applying at OHSU OCNE and PCC. No need to state GPA or points or anything. I just mailed off my app to OHSU the other day, but still need to do my proctored essay. I sent the school the information for my proctor but have not heard anything yet. PCC will have apps available in December, so now I'm waiting for that. Good luck to everyone!
Congrats! I got a call yesterday too. So excited. OHSU was my very first choice. To what program did you get accepted?
I am moving to Portland from Utah and I don't even know where to begin. Are you in Portland? Do you know which neighborhoods are best/close to OHSU? So many questions.
Let's keep talking.
I'm in for midwifery but still deciding between some other programs (as i applied to a bunch because i didn't know what my chances were!). I am not sure how I will decide!! The main thing i don't like about OHSU is that you have to pay out-of-state tuition and that once you are labeled as "out-of-state" you cannot gain residency while living there for school. But i guess all the programs are expensive - so i'm going to be in debt no matter what! Does anyone know when this program starts? Looking at last year's stuff it seems like mid-June...anyone know?
I am trying to decide between OHSU's ABM (into nurse-midwifery) and UCSF. Anyone out there who is also doing the ABM to Nurse Midwifery or have any insight as to the program at ABM OHSU. Why are you choosing OSHU? There is not a lot of info out there - so i'd love to chat with anyone in my position or someone who is already in the program!

Thanks for letting us know and congratulations woohoo!! When I spoke to Tami last week she didn't give me any indication that there would be phone calls, so this is good news. I arrived home to a message from the OHSU admissions office, but there was some kind of snafu (with my voicemail system perhaps?) and nothing seemed to have recorded... Even so, it seems like good news--they probably wouldn't be calling to let me know I didn't get in, right? I left a message for them asking them to try again tomorrow on my cell; I intend to glue it to my left hand for the day!
This is by far my first choice. I love the idea of living in Portland, and I have to say the sense that I got of the midwifery program during my visit was great. Not hard to see why they're so highly ranked. I met with the program director and a relatively new faculty member, and was very impressed with both of them. Okay, have to sign off now and get dinner for my little person. Cross your fingers for me!
