Ohsu - Ocne/bsn

U.S.A. Oregon

Well my letter from OHSU finally came. I have been put on the alternate list. I guess that is better than getting a rejection letter but I have no idea what my chances of being moved up to being accepted are. I am just wondering if there are any other prospective or even current OHSU students out there who know what my chances are. Are there any of you who got an acceptance letter but are planning on not attending OHSU? (that would definitely increase my chances of getting in.)

I have specified that OHSU's new program out at Western Oregon University in Monmouth is my first pick, as I am from Salem, but I have also checked that I would consider the Portland campus as well...

I have also applied at Chemeketa Community College (ADN program) but will probably not hear back until the end of June.

I am just making myself a bit crazy trying to plan for the fall without really knowing what my life will look like then...

I was an alternate and just found out this week I got in! I'm down in Ashland.

How close to the start of classes did you get "the call" that there was space for you?

Hey, NicoleInHisWill, did you end up starting nursing school somewhere? Just curious, hope you did.

Hi, I also found out last night that I am also on the alternate waiting list for the accelerated BSN program at OHSU. It's pretty disappointing. I am not sure what's better: the waiting list or the rejection letter. I live on the east coast so the wait is especially difficult as I don't know if I should sign a 12 month lease with an apartment etc. Does anyone know how many people are on the wait list for OHSU? And what the chances are for getting accepted into the program if you are on the wait list?

Thank you

Zazzialex- I also found out that I am on the waiting list for the Accelerated BSN at OHSU...frustrating not knowing how many alternates there are, or what number we are on the alternates list. I'm with you in that it's almost better to have a "yes" or "no" rather than the waiting list. I wish I knew what our chances were...

I do have a friend that applied to the accelerated bachelors to Masters in Midwifery program at OHSU last year- she was on the waiting list and ended up getting an offer...so there may be hope for us! Best to you...

Hello everybody,

I am planning on applying to OHSU this quarter and was wondering what your average GPA's were? I feel like I am a very competitive student but i've also heard that OHSU is a bit more competitive in the nursing program than most? Anything anybody could tell me about the school would be greatly appreciated. Are the teachers more one on one? Do you feel that its a great program... etc. ANYTHING! =) I have quite a few other options but ulitimately woudl like to be going here!!

I talked to some advisors at OHSU and this is what I was told. If applying for the accelerated BSN program have at least a 3.9GPA. Keep in mind this is an accumulated GPA for all course work taken, not just prereqs. If applying for the standard four year BSN program, have at least a 3.8GPA for the prereqs. This was based on students who applied for the 2010 entrance. At the end of the conversation one of the advisors said, "best just to make sure you have a 4.0GPA for both programs because it's so competitive". Now this also depends on what campus you're applying to. I was only interested in the Portland campus, so I don't know if the GPA expectations are different at the other campuses.

As a rule of thumb I go by what an advisor at CCC told me: "Have it in mind to get all A's in your prereqs. If you get one B, then you may be able to squeak by if you already have a BA/BS and can take advantage of the other points".

WOW if that's true, I might never get it... I got all Bs in my A&P classes and would rather do a lot of things than take them again. Does the OHSU OCNE program look at the overall GPA or just for the pre-reqs? That's one school I applied to and I would love to get in....
