Hey all!
Long time lurker, but now that the application deadline has passed, I feel comfortable finally starting a post.
Just curious to hear who else applied to this program. It's fascinating to me to hear about people's different experiences, stats, expectations, etc. I'm also wondering what other programs people might've applied to? I got my submission in for the Portland ABSN program as well.
Best of luck to everyone! Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and perspectives.
That's true. I just called and they confirmed that they have everything that they need from me. She said that the first round of interview invites have already been sent out for the ABSN-FNP program, but that they could still send out interview invites up until the interview dates. So that's both good and bad news. She also said that the ABSN invites should start to be sent out by this Friday. I feel like if I didn't get an invite for the ABSN-FNP program, there's really no way I'd get one of the ABSN since it's way more competitive. But we'll see!
I unfortunately can't say I'm surprised. It's just so competitive and this is my first time applying. That being said, depending on your GPA (I'm spacing on what you told me), the ABSN could be easier to get an interview for. They don't look at experiences or anything initially, so if you've got the grades, you should get the invite. I have no idea how this will turn out though, unfortunately. I've started looking at Concordia's program for fall, just to be safe.

This is also my first time applying and only applied to OHSU, so I'm not at all surprised considering people often apply 3-4 times before getting in. My GPA is average, so I am not riding on my GPA unfortunately. I was counting on my work experience and letters of rec. I'm also looking into Concordia's program as I have a co-worker who is almost graduated from their ABSN program and he said it's a pretty good program!

That's super nice to hear about Concordia, considering the ABSN is so new that it's hard to find info on how students feel about it. Any details he's passed on? OHSU is still my top choice but I have to hand it to Concordia in terms of how helpful their admissions staff has been and how flexible their program appears to be while still remaining rigorous. I'm aiming for the August start there, assuming OHSU doesn't pan out and I can get in.

I don't have a lot of details since we aren't super close co-workers, but he has said that it's a good program and that it's nice that they offer online and in person classes. They seem to focus a lot on community health and working with low-income/impoverished communities, which for me being a Public Health major is really compelling. I think that if I don't get a spot at OHSU I'll take a break from school for a bit, and then aim for a Winter start date at Concordia.

That definitely seems compelling to me too. I'm thinking I'll aim for the August start date, but that may be too much. We'll see. I'm just freaking out and hoping OHSU starts emailing today.

The lady said they would be starting to send them out today, so we will see! A lot of the nurses at my work have given me good advice though. They say that while OHSU is a great school at the end of the day a BSN is a BSN no matter what school you go to!

It's so refreshing to hear that from actual nurses! My boyfriend keeps reminding me of that whenever I start freaking out and I fail to listen because he's nowhere near being involved in healthcare
I'm just antsy because I guess there's always the possibility they keep pushing the invite dates out, or because invites starting today means the pressure is finally on to get an email considering they said they'd all be out by Tuesday. Just scared I won't even get an invite but they're right - I'll work it out if I don't get in.
