deltaroxxy2 are you still thinking about applying to the FNP program? Just curious who's going that direction. I swore it off but am now reconsidering. Thanks!

Nope I'm done…finished…FINITO…I miss my life. I don't have that BURNING desire to be an NP. If, and that's a big IF I do go back to school, it will have something to do w/commuity nursing/public health education type stuff. I'm tired of school. Seems like EVERYONE is going back to be an NP. Just learned that my hospital recently told those currently in school to be NP's, "Sorry, but we have no jobs for you!!" So come April 28, I'll kick up my heels, scream and shot, and THANK GOD that I'm DONE!!!!

HeathRN, how is going thus far?

So I left the program. It was not what I had expected. I too want and have a life. It was more stress than I was prepared to deal with. Not sure what I'm going to do now, sad and disappointed that this experince was not what I was told it would be. If they tell you you can work, go to school, and have time for your life they are not be truthful and don't believe them either if they tell you that you need 20 hrs a week for school work, myself and most of the other people in that class were working up to 40 hrs a week. I'm going to look at some local on campus programs that have a part-time option. If it takes me longer so be it.

OMG how awful...I'm going to send you a PM...please check your msgs.

See..I knew it sounded too good to be true. Thanks for the insight Heather. My coworker attends NKU and so far has enjoyed it. She is going PT and works PT, and I've yet to hear her complain. Yep, I don't need that kind of stress. At least not at this point in my life. GL finding a program that is right for you!!

How depressing. It sounded ideal but I don't want that kind of stress either. I know how much time I spend on the RN-BSN program so the NP curriculum must be a bear. Deltaroxxy where is NKU and is it on line? I have no options other than on line. Thanks Heather, best of luck to you. I figured one class every 7 weeks would be doable...guess it depends on what's required. I'm not afraid of hard work but I am afraid of losing touch with my family in the process.

Northern Kentucky University. Yes, they have onsite and online. My friend goes online. She got in there and U of Cincy, but chose NKU b/c of reputation. Another coworker attend Frontier. They are solely online.

My husband is super supportive, but even he's said he can't wait for me to be done so that we can have our life back. Just the constant studying, papers, discussions, test, quizzes, gets old really quick. Especially when you have a very social/active lifestyle.

Yes, it does get old. We are very active people as well. I'll check out NKU. A part-time option is ideal. Thanks for the tip. Mostly I just want to be independently wealthy, lol!

Well - I looked at NKU and Frontier's requirements and class schedule - too many nonsense classes for me. Think I am going to stick with OU or go with St Joe's in Standish. I didn't expect it to be easy - and the program recruiter I talked to and the FNP that I know that teaches - both told me to expect to devote 30-40 hours a week to study no matter what program I enroll in. I'll apply to both

How can anyone possibly work and manage that kind of schedule? Good luck to you. Did you speak with the recruiter at OU? She never mentioned that amount of study time to me. I was under a different impression. You're right, it will be a demanding program anywhere.

I think it depends on how quickly you absorb information - this program states 3 hours per quarter hour/week and I am taking 2 classes. I know that St Joe's program is doable while working full time - but the expense is so much more. And they have dropped their mandatory on campus time - altho Summer in Maine is absolutely beautiful. I have a year to decide and if OU doesn't have an initial successful class - they will have to make some adjustments - right??!!!
