Ohio or Texas

So I will be graduating from Family Nurse Practitioner school in a few months and undecided which state to practice in- Ohio or Texas. Would it be easier for me to find a job in Texas or Ohio? What would the wages be like for new grads?

Texas is very restrictive. Don't know about Ohio.

Texas!! I just relocated to Dallas, TX and I must say it's so many good opportunities here. Also, my kids have been able to find great jobs in other areas. My kids are adults we all relocated from Tennessee. I'm currently in a FNP program as well. Good luck!

zenman What do you mean by Texas being restrictive?

Don't know about Ohio.

Despite Texas' practice restrictions there are plenty of opportunities in the metro areas.

Best of luck.

Thanks Tarshapitt. I have family in Dallas, TX and I'm strongly considering moving there after I graduate (currently in school in Ohio). But, I don't really know about the job market or average pay in Dallas. Any advice would strongly be appreciated : )

I'm a Texan but would not work there as it's one of the most restrictive states for NP's. Right next door in New Mexico NP's have had totally independent practice rights for 20 years. There might be plenty of jobs in Texas, but not for me. There may be more opportunities in Texas as the governor of NM is seeking to attract NP's from Texas and Oklahoma.

Zenman how is the salary for NM?

I'm from ohio.... I don't feel we have restrictive laws and there seems to be tons of jobs. I was hired 2 months prior to graduation!

Check out Indeed. I'm not there right now.

How did salary in NM fare compare to the first place you practiced after leaving?

i made 6 figures right out of school in NM. I'm a military contractor now in KS and making even more.

I am not in the job market as an NP yet, but there seems to be plenty of postings on Indeed for NPs in the Houston area as well.
