Hello everyone,

My family and I were planning to relocate to Ohio--We were looking into

the Dayton area--Has anyone worked in any of the Dayton hospitals?

I would like some input on the working conditions (probably on a medsurg

floor), also I'd like to know the price range of the houses around there.

Over here, I wouldn't be able to buy a house for less than 400,000

Also, does anyone know the starting wage for RN in that area??

I hope I can answer a few of your questions. I am not an RN yet, but will be hopefully in about 3 weeks after I take my NCLEX. I have just graduated from nursing school in Dayton, and have done many clinicals at many of the hospitals in the area. Most of the hospitals are really good to work at. Most of my friends are getting jobs at two of the bigger hospitals here, Good Sam Hospital and Miami Valley Hospital. A new grad makes $20.37/hour plus shift differential at both of these hospitals. The other hospitals in Dayton make a little less.

I did a critical care rotation on a floor that is a medical step down floor at Miami Valley for 10 weeks. The floor is 6 SAC (I don't really know what the SAC stood for, but it was a stepdown) that was an awesome floor. It was new, and always very well staffed. The nurses never had more than 4 patients each day, and usually it was only 3.

I also just did my preceptorship at Grandview hospital on the MACU (Medical advanced care unit). This unit was similar to 6SAC, in that it is a medical stepdown, but it had much to be desired. The nurses always seemed very stressed, and most of the time they had 4 patients. The patients seemed much sicker here than at the valley for some reason. I really did not enjoy the hospital at all. This hospital is a D.O. hospital, not an M.D. hospital, if that matters.

Thanks for the input. Do you know which towns have decently priced

houses that are near those 2 hospitals you mentioned? i'm hoping to find a house that is under the 200,000 range and is still in a nice area with good schools. I also heard that

Dayton is not a very desirable area, is that true? I just hope to find a

hospital that I will enjoy working at--I'm not the type to jump from job to job

Most of the suburbs of Dayton are really nice. I am living on campus here, so I really have no clue about housing prices, but a couple of the nicer suburbs, in my opinion, would be Beavercreek and Kettering (I can't think of any others at the moment...) I did not grow up here, so I'm not real sure aobut the school systems, but I have heard that they are really good systems, and they are not too far away from the hospitals. Maybe if you do a google search of suburbs of dayton, you might be able to find out more information about others...

apparently you posted this almost amonth ago so don't know where you are in your search but if you still need info I would be happy to help. I have worked in Dayton and lived in the area for over 30 yrs .

I would definitly recommend Kettering for housing, great schools.

as far as employment depends on what you are looking for in a work enviroment.
