Hello everyone (: In case we haven't met, I'm Brandy, an LPN. Check out my profile if you want, I've just come back to this site and know noone! ):

Anyway, my question to you:

Anyone here in NW Ohio/SE Michigan? I'm looking for a corrections position there. I am licensed in both states, and I have applied with Maxim Staffing who provides some corrections positions, as well as Manpower who does the same. Maxim is currently trying to get my fingerprints done and background check ran, Manpower just never has any openings close to me. ): I was at the Lenawee County Jail but had to leave. ): And state of Ohio has no LPN listings close to me. Boo! So does anyone else know how to get back into it?!

The state of Michigan is hiring for corrections lpn look on Michigan website. A friend of mine works in Jackson Michigan prison and she loves it. As a LPN she passes pills through a bullet proof glass she doesn't work any holidays or weekends. Good luck!!!!!

I would suggest applying directly to both Michigan and Ohio Department of Corrections. If no current openings are listed online, submit paper state applications(with cover letters and resumes and state locations of interest) to both departments. You would be placed in a pool of applicants to be considered as positions become available. The hiring process may take a little longer, but would probably be worth the wait for direct entry, training/orientation, salary and benefits. Also, apply directly with local county jails and sherriff departments for correctional nursing opportunities as well. Best wishes to you: )

In Ohio, the agency that gets Corrections is ATC Healthcare. I don't believe Maxim staffs corrections in Ohio.

I know near central (Columbus/Delaware area) there is a constant need at multiple smaller facilities, but I'm better that would be a bit far away!

I also know trying to get on with State in Ohio is a pain in the rear. From the time you apply to the time you interview can take several months, and from the time you're hired to the time you start is about six weeks.

I do not work for the state as I am finishing up nursing school but have been scouring the different sites for ideas of the type of nursing I eventually want to do. With that said I am pretty sure you could find some positions in Michigan through the state website, I can't recall specifically if there are many LPN positions but know they have many RN positions posted. From all that I have gathered it would be a direct hire going that route, not sure if they also use staffing companies but if they do Manpower might be a good bet. Best of luck. I would like to do something in public health and thought this might be a good experience until I can get a BSN down the road.
