No I didn't do it on purpose, well...perhaps subconsciously.
I'm applying for a RN-BSN program from a two year community college. When my school tansfer adviser looked over my GPA she told me I should have on trouble being accepted to most places. When I applied to my choice school online just now, I submitted my high school info, my RN program info, and the last page were questions like, have u ever been convicted of a crime, have u ever been suspended or kicked out of school, and things like that. I just clicked no no no, and then submit.
After I hit the submit button it dawned on me that I did get kicked out of a four year year college 12 years ago due to low grades. What should I do now? If I contact the BSN school on Monday, would they still consider me if I disclose that info? The college I went to, I had no plans of transferring any credits over. It was not a nursing major but in something that was way over my head.
Please help!
Some schools show a status of academically dismissed on the transcript. Another clue is the # of credits completed compared to the GPA. (The threshold to dismiss varies by institution.) If there are a lot of withdrawals in the final semester coupled with a low GPA, it would be evident the student beat the institution to the punch and got out while the getting was good.
Just a quick update... I looked at the nursing common app and they do say list ALL prior academic history regardless of relevance. If that is the case for the RN-BSN program the OP is applying to, then there is an obligation to amend the application. This is definitely an "it depends" situation.
Good luck to the OP! The fact that you are wondering about it tells me you are an ethical person and you'll do the right thing. Good luck!!!
Yes...but sometimes the right thing isn't going to help you in the end.
Wouldn't it be nice if being 100% honest all the time works out to your benefit?
In the world of academia...it rarely does.
That is why people, such as myself, are advising her that she needs to leave her application alone, because if she "fixes" it and they are not willing to look over her low GPA at another institution, then what is done is done and that door will be closed to her.
I have a close friend at work that graduated 14 years ago with a BS with a 2.3 GPA...she now wants to go to graduate school at called the same school she originally went to....feeling that they would be somewhat sympathetic and find out if she might be able to take some graduate core classes and get admission based on her performance in those. Same thing with two others she tried to apply to.
But nope....she was told she could not. So now she is having to get her Masters through a very expensive private online school, because since they are "for profit" they don't really care about your GPA.

My question is how would they know you were dismissed from the school, as opposed to you
just leaving?
