Hi all,
I am about to start nursing school on 8/31. I am trying to prepare for the amount of studying I will be enduring the next two years of this journey, and I am trying to make an office space in my already tight bedroom. My room is 11x12 with a queen sized bed in it. I have finally cleaned out and organized my entire room and am trying devise a plan on where to put a study space that is 'welcoming' in a sense.
What I am wondering from all of you is if you have any tips or advice on what type of organizers (whiteboards, chalkboards, shelving, cabinets, large desk, etc) have worked best for you and your personal experiences. How much time did you spend studying at home versus on campus and with other students?
I am aware this is a bit of a weird question, but I need to get an idea on what type of space will be beneficial and if investing in this should be a higher priority or not based on how much a private study space was utilized by other students.
I really appreciate any feedback you all may have! :)

I bought a desk from target that is simple and decent size but not huge. It's got two shelves on one side that can hold my books etc. I decorated the walls above it and next to it with inspirational quotes and pretty wall art decor so that when I'm overwhelmed I can look up and refocus my mind.
Edited to add:
My house has a den/office but it's open and can be pretty distracting to study there. So I bought the simple desk and put it in the unused corner of our room so I can shut and lock the door and be by myself distraction free :)
Maybe you could set up a little study area outside under the sun on nice days to give your mind a refreshing environment. I find that scenery opens the mind and makes reading more enjoyable. I am going to talk to my husband about a table and chair set for our front patio. I discovered this studying under the trees at my university. It is very peaceful.
That's a great idea, I could do this in addition to the indoor space (I live in Arizona so the nice days get limited more than less! Haha) but regardless, being outside would be a great place to study and read!

That sounds adorable! Do you have a picture of your space? That's basically what I am looking to do. I have a small little desk that will fit nicely next to my bed. It'll be tight, but it should work.

Okay! I am almost finished with my new room/study space. Here is where I'm at so far:
One is when you're looking into my room, the other is the view from desk. (It was nighttime and dark when I took it!) I still have shelves and decor to get, but overall I feel this is a wonderful space! I actually love it! ðŸ˜

I personally cannot study at home, I made an office space in my home and rarely use it. All I do at home is my school assignments and care plans. I mostly study at the library or barnes & nobles. Although I usually do not like to work in groups I find group studying ( usually just myself and 2 other people) to be very effective. A lot of things that are covered during my group sessions usually end up being on the exam.

Thank you for the advice! I am not sure what I will like more, but i live about an hour from campus so I wanted to make sure I had the option to study at home if possible and a space to do so. I'm hoping I have amazing people in my cohort that will want to study together but I'm not sure yet how it will go. :)

PINTREST! lol it is the best site for ideas. I had a small bedroom last year and used a shutter attached to the wall i could fold out into a desk and sit on the edge of my bed as a chair. It was a really tiny room. My house now has enough room for a dedicated office/sewing room for me.
I need a white board though. I used it for prereqs and I have two presently one for my calendar and one blank one. I use it for a to do list, and study list. I have a few colors so I color code my classes and I can have a running to do list (what to study for test, or a large project broken in to steps) and I have a due this week list. I love checking stuff off, it makes me feel like I am doing something even though I am just sitting at a desk staring at a text book.
I study some at school. I like the private study desks in the library and in the study rooms as a group to review for tests. But I do a bulk of my studying at home. I have kids and I like taking 15 min working, taking a break making dinner. Then after they go to bed taking another hour or so. Or getting up early. I found that when I had a desk in my room i still studied on the dinning room table more often than no so I felt part of things. My office bedroom became more of a organizing/command center but I didn't work there much. I studied so much I didn't feel part of the rest of the house anymore.

This is great! Thanks for the tips! I just got a cute glass board (white board) from ikea. I'll have to post a pic. It was only $20 I believe and it's more appealing to the eye than a regular whiteboard - the only reason I want that is because it's in my room and not a separate office on its own! :) trying to keep it cute, yet, effective!!

I remember the student desk I bought was from Walmart. It was really tiny so it fit in my room. Maybe you could try that.
