2 offers, but nothing in writing yet

Ok, so here is my situation.. after many months of not being able to even get a call back from any hospitals, I received 2 call backs on the same day and subsequently, 2 interviews (the Gods must have been liking me that day!) The interviews happened this week, job 1 on Monday and job 2 on Tuesday. Job 1 is the least desired. Job 2 is ultimately the one I want.

Both interviews went great. Job 1 called Tuesday (right before my interview with Job 2), and offered the job, gave salary info, etc., asked if I would be interested. I asked if I could have a couple days to make a decision and they were ok with that.

Now, Job 2.. I've never had an interview that went so smoothly. The manager basically hired me on the spot. She was super excited and was asking if I wanted to go ahead and get the paperwork process started, which of course I said yes. She called 2 of my references that day. She wants to try to get everything completed before their next hospital orientation. Yesterday (Wed), I get an email from their HR dept. wanting me to complete a form so they can determine my base pay rate, which I did immediately and sent back. However, I still have not received a written formal offer, but I would think it is coming very soon?

My dilemma.. I can't keep dragging job 1 along, but I don't necessarily want to decline 'just yet' because I haven't received anything formal from job 2. But job 2 seems pretty certain, or else they wouldn't have sent the pay form. Anyone have advice on what I should do? I hate declining a job because it's been such a tough time trying to find anything. The waiting game is the worst part! Thanks!

I would ask them for it in writing and explain I have another offer that I want to decline but I need the security of a formal written offer.

So important to get that. I turned down an interview because I had gotten an offer from DON then spoke to HR did my physical everything and then cooperate ended up not approving the positions budget. Yeah totally sucked

Yes, use this to your advantage.

I wasn't quite sure how to go about asking job 2 for something official, without being overly pushy.. but RNcali, you nailed it (and sorry about that situation.. that sucks!) Thanks for both of your replies!
