Our MDS Coordinator has been working in the position for 10 years. She loves her job but is concerned about the stress and the full time hours because she had a mild MI and has been diagnosed with CHF. She works one day a week in the local family practice clinic and has been offered a full time position there...she says it is pretty stress free, so she accepted. They want someone to move into her position ASAP so she has time to train them before she is done. The administrator and the DON think I am perfect for the job and offered it to me. It is the same $$$, but better hours (0800-1700), better benefits, no holidays, every other weekend on the floor, flexible scheduling as long as it doesn't interfere with meetings or care plans. They'll give me three weeks on the job training, send me to Omaha or Denver for a week for more training, and pay for an online training course. It sounds like a good deal. I have to give them an answer tomorrow and I am pretty sure I am going to say yes. They had an RN inquire about the position before it was actually open, but they said they want someone who isn't afraid to get their hands dirty in a pinch and the RN doesn't want to work the floor at all. I told them I wouldn't do it unless I could have at least a little time on the floor...since MDS is only 32 hours a week, they were happy to promise me every other weekend.
I LOVE this facility...they treat their staff like gold, their residents even better, and I look forward to going to work every day. I am really honored that they even considered me for the job because I haven't been there that long.
