ODP to RN

Specialties Operating Room

Published

Hi guys, I'm currently an ODP in the UK. I've been wondering about this for a while now and can't seem to find anything on the web. Is it possible to become a nurse with an ODP Diploma i.e. is it possible to do a conversion course/short course to become a registered nurse as I already have some healthcare experience? Is there anyone here who has both qualifications or has converted one to the other?

Thanks :)

Welcome to AN! While your setting may be the OR, you may have better luck getting answers in the UK forum since your question is related to UK nursing education. I'm not familiar with the term ODP, but going from a Google search, here in the US, I'm guessing the closest career would be a surgical technologist. Those who wish to go to nursing school after completing a surgical technologist program must complete a full nursing program, although some of the prerequisites such as anatomy and physiology would transfer in.

Thanks for the warm welcome :) Ah thanks, I didn't know there was a UK forum *newbie*. Is there a way I can move the thread there?

Hi, you are best off talking to the university you wish to apply for. They may let you APEL part of the course, but as the two are rather different, I don't think you would be able to just do a short course.
