Anyone know from experience how long the waiting list is to get accepted into the evening program once you had completed all the pre-reqs?
Well, I hope for your sake they get on the ball about getting out those acceptance letters!
They said in the testing center it was a 3 hour test. I was done, at most, in an hour and a half. I was the first one done, but not way ahead of everyone. They give you x amount of minutes per section. You have 2-4 questions up at a time, depending on the amount of space each question takes up. When you are done answering the ones on the screen, you hit "next" on the bottom of the screen. When you answer the last q of the section, it asks you if you want to continue to the next section. So you click yes. For some reason, 2 of the people taking the test at the same time as me, thought you had to wait until the time for that section ticked down to 0:00, and then go on. Why would you sit there and stare at a screen for 10 minutes?
Anyway. Your SAT score wasn't high enough to get right in? Or you just preferred not taking the Gen ed with Nurs?
Maybe the version 5 is 5 hours? Eww that is gross. Best of luck to ya!
I'm sure the test won't take as long as they say no matter how long the new version is. I don't know why anyone would sit there until the ticket is done haha, that's funny. My SATs were only a 990 and I think you had to have a 1100 or better. I have all the pre-req's done and the only thing I have left is Microbiology which I am taking this semester. So I am *hoping* I get in for this Fall. Good luck on Monday!
A word of warning---it is EXPENSIVE. Start saving now. Another major factor if people having to decline is the last minute rush. Here is a list of what needs to be done:
full physical from dr. I got my letter around last week of Nov, and it had to be done by Oct 15th, anything older was not accepted. This includes urinalysis, blood work and 2step mantoux test. this costs varies depending on your insurance.
Cash deposit to hold your seat. $200.
BackGround Check. This varies. I think the base is $60, and then $20 for each address in other states. I moved to SC, and owned 3 houses there, so my bill was $129 bucks after taxes and junk.
Basic Life Support CPR certification. Mine expires in March, but I have to renew it now, so it is good the entire 2 years of the course. That is $55 through the AHA.
I think I am forgetting something.
Either way, it is expensive just to get in!! Start a piggy bank now, and best of luck to you!
Hmmm, you can't get student loans for Nursing school? You need to pay cash? College is expensive no matter what majoy but I thought you could take out loans and pay back once you have your degree. Very confused:uhoh3:
I just finished my pre-requisites in May 2010 and passed the TEAS with an 80...my question is, do I have a chance of getting into the Nursing program for Spring 2011? And does anyone know when the acceptance letters are ususally sent out for the Spring program? I am so anxious. I am so ready to start this program, especially while I have the financial aid. If anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you!
nevermind...i just received an e-mail from the office manager of registration for the ocean county college nursing program. this quote is in reference to the spring 2011 nursing program class;
"i have just started the evaluations for the spring 2011 class. acceptance letters will be sent in late october. until all the evaluations are done (1100) i won't know what "date of completion" we will get up to.
when you get your evaluation letter in the mail, contact me and i should have a good idea where you stand in the consideration for acceptance to the spring 2011 class."
there are 1100 letters of intent for the spring 2011 nursing program! that's insane!
That is crazy!!! I, too am a prospective NS for OCC. I have Statistics this Fall then I'll have everything completed. I'm behind you. I spoke to one of the 2 main women a couple of weeks ago in Advising and she said as of right now it's about a 2 to 3 semester wait. I've heard there is a wait list pretty much everywhere, unfortunately. I have a friend that is planning on going to Brookdale and their wait is 2 years! What are you going to do while waiting? Will you take more classes? That's my plan....

do you know how many students are accepted each semester?
Yea I'm going to take additional classes while I wait and do the Kean@Ocean BSN program, I was thinking I minds well. I'm taking Microbiology, Integrated Office Software, Public Speaking, and Sociology starting next week...and the number of student accepted each term is as follows, lol...
Traditional Program
90 for Spring
90 for Fall
Onsite Online Program
90 for Spring
90 for Fall
Which is a ridiculously small amount. I also didn't like how individuals with a Bachelors degree could skate right by the those w/o a Bachelors degree, but thank goodness that's changing starting with Spring 2011, now they cannot receive a date of completion w/o taking A&P I & II first. Before they could receive a date of completion w/o completing all of the pre-requisites. And you're right there is a waiting list at like every school, which is hard to believe because I would think if there's a world wide nursing shortage, why not get more instructors. But I hope everything works out for the both of us! :)

These are the new requirements for the TEAS test, they have it on the OCC website now, but I got it in a letter too:
ATI, the company that offers the TEAS test, has moved to Version 5 of the test. Beginning January 2010, all
students testing at OCC will be offered Version 5, and should look for study guides that reference this
version. If you have already taken and passed a prior version of the TEAS test at OCC, you do not
need to take the test again; the pass on the prior test still counts.
To improve your chances of success on this test, take you general education courses first. The TEAS test
consists of reading, math, science, and English. If you wish, take the review class.
Students who fail the TEAS test the first time can retake after a mandatory waiting period of 6 weeks.
Students who fail the TEAS test on the second attempt are required to complete the OCC TEAS review class
offered through Continuing Education before attempting a third time.
Students who fail the test on the third attempt cannot retest for two years.
If you are applying for Spring 2011, your deadline to take and pass the TEAS is the prior June 30th.
If you are applying for Fall 2011, your deadline to take and pass the TEAS is the prior December 31st.
Applicants for Fall 2010 will follow the old requirements and will be directed to test in April if you are accepted.
Not giving much time for it I guess! How long is the test? I heard it's close to 5 hours.
