OCCC BADNAP Class of 2011

U.S.A. Oklahoma

Published

Hey,

I was just checking to see who all will be attending the OCCC BADNAP program starting this June. If you are, let me know~:)

Hey guys I told my family I was most likely accepted then Friday before spring break it was surprising to receive a denial letter bc my gpa was not high enough , I applied with a 3.2 so I was really distraught and couldn't get ahold of anyone until after spring break. There was a problem with the way records did my gpa and still figuring it out but after many tears and stress I received a call yesterday and signed my letter of acceptance. I'm so excited for these next ten months. I withdrew from the traditional 2 year program I was in to be in this one. I have one semester of nursing school under my belt so I'm pretty confident about this first class of basics however I am a bit nervous about the rest so that being said I like to meet people and am helpful and I'm so excited to see u guys in orientation. I always like to ask older students if the books required in class r absolutely necessary or not before I buy them bc for one nursing tests are not based on testing for content specifics- for example the normal specific gravity for urine is what- their questions are more testing ur responses in situations- for example, if u walk into a room and a patient is lying on the floor what is the nurses first intervention- in which case there are most likely 3 correct answers with one being the most correct. I'm sure this is nothing new to most of yall but I wanted to share some info and here to help and be helped as well. I'm really in nursing to be the best possible nurse and truly advocate for my patients. My email is [email protected] if anyone would like to get together or consult on our information just email me. They say u meet some of the bet friends for life in nursing school although that's not necessary it sure helps to have support in such an intense program. Look forward to meeting everyone!!!

Congrats, Knevans2000!! What 2 year program were you in? How was it? Looking forward to meeting you!

Angie

Oh geez! I know a little bit how you felt that week, but I think receiving a rejection letter knowing you should have gotten in would have been much worse! I'm all for getting any help that is offered, so I'll probably be shooting you an email. So glad you got it worked out though!

And thanks for your thoughts val...much appreciated :)

cool Beedubs, im a TOTAL nerd so I am all about school lol. Yes it was hard but somehow I kept my sanity. I tried to not seem too persistent so they wouldn't reject me b/c of bugging them hehe. Angie, I went to Northern Oklahoma College. I started the second semester, however, I receive a scholarship from physician's Manpower Commission *there is a matching an non-matching, make sure you check that out too for this program, they only disburse every semester, however, I am going to see if there is an exception b/c of how this program is structured and starts in June.., check it out though, if you agree to work in oklahoma after you graduate in a place other than a dr. office u can receive a matching- matched by the hospital of your choice- or non-matching which is $1000 every semester. The great thing is they make it out to you, not the school and it's to cover gas expenses to clinicals, or uniforms, or anything relating to nursing school ( I deemed the six pack I had to buy with it b/c of the stress from school a viable expense but not sure...JK :) Anywho, I started the second semester but dropped to save my financial aide for this semester. The program I was in was a traditional 2 year. My name is Kara by the way...:) Hello future classmates. Im so excited. FYI if you buy your uniforms somewhere( Im not sure if they offer them in bookstore or not) they are usually cheaper outside of bookstore and ALSO ask for a discount b/c they usually do for students. Where can I fax my clinical preferences to? Anyone have the number?

Anybody finish submitting all of their stuff yet? I still have some vaccine stuff to take care of and also CPR...

I have the second TB test and flu shot left to do (just had the mmr so my doctor is making me wait a couple of weeks on the flu shot). I'm doing the CPR this Saturday. Hopefully I'll have all my stuff ready by the end of this month.

I turned in all of my stuff last Thursday (not yesterday), and they said I was number 6 in getting it all in, and I will get my first choice of clinical facilities. So, most people have not gotten their stuff turned in either. You still have a month, good luck. :)

Don't bother with the flu shot. I had one done, even though the flu is no longer in season. When I went to turn in the paper showing I had it, the lady at OCCC did not even want it. We don't have to wear a mask unless we don't get the shot in September when it is offered for that flu season. I paid $23 and had a sore arm for no reason. If you want to be sure, call and ask before you spend your money.

I have one more comment...I strongly suggest going to ******** at Norman Regional Hospital for shots. I swear...I did not feel a thing. She is amazing!!!

Val do you work at NRH? I work weekends in OR between there and the Healthplex

take care,

see everyone Friday!

I don't work at Norman Regional. I got the nurses information from health department.

See you Friday!
