We're out here! i just found this site and i'd love to talk to other OB nurses. I love my job, I've been in OB 2 1/2 yrs. I do Mother /Baby and L & D. L & D is my favorite, but i still feel unsure of myself at times. I'd like to hear about other areas of the US and other countries, what it's, like on your units.
Mobius107,
It is often easier to get a position in post-partum first. Even though you want to work L&D, sometimes you have to work your way up. By starting in post-partum, you get your foot in the door and it's then easier to move into L&D. Contact the nurse manager and let her know you are interested and let her know why you would be a good choice. This can also help.Good Luck!

Hi there, I work in L&D and do c/s cases as well scub and circulate. Also work with home health for high risk pregnancies. Ive been in OB for 7 years this time L&D and surgery the past 5 years. I truely interested in nursing informatics and I am beginning to search out some computer class that will help me.
I am a maternity nurse for a small hospital. I feel like I am the only woman to have had a baby without medication. Our hospital has a 97% epidural rate. I have a hard time with this sometimes. I wish more women would just try it with other techniques. The other problem I have is with moms who have just had a baby and we are supposed to do all the infant care. They want us to keep them in the nursery alot. Hardley any of our moms have rooming in at night and I've even had moms call me to change a babys diaper, even though everything is right there on the cribs. I LOVE my job, but I just have these couple of gripes. I would like to know from others parts of the country and world if this is normal for everywhere? Thanks for the sounding board!
