OB Nurse Day???

Specialties Ob/Gyn

Published

With Nurse's week coming up in May I was wondering does anyone know if there is a special day just for OB or L&D nurses - like there is for ER nurses? If there is - when is it? I am in charge of our bulletin boards in our dept for 2006 - & would love to honor our great staff. So if you know - please pass on the info

Thanks & GOD BLESS

not that I know of but if you find it let me know

I do know that May 5 is deemed the International Day of the Midwife, and some OB nurses are also midwives...but not sure of any specific OB RN day. That would be great though...maybe AWHONN should declare one??!

from the MANA website http://www.mana.org/IntMidDay.html

"The idea of having a day to recognize and honor midwives came out of the 1987 International Confederation of Midwives conference in the Netherlands. International Midwives' Day was first celebrated May 5, 1991, and has been observed in over 50 nations around the world."

Hi Everyone, I am so glad that someone asked this question. I became a nursing unit manager of a busy integrated unit, including antenatal, L&D, postpartum and subspeciality nursery. I have no OBS experience and I know I got the job because of my 21 years of ER experience and a very positive attitude. This unit has had 5 different managers in 10 years, all very qualified OBS nurses all of them with negative attitudes. I wanted to acknowledge my nurses on OBS nurses day just like we had in the ER. We need to request that AWhonn delegate a specific day to nurses not just Midwives. Thanks for the great question
