Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo Vs. Yasmin

Specialties Ob/Gyn

Published

Hi all,

I am not sure if I am posting this in the correct forum but I need a general answer. I just started taking Ortho Low (week 2 started yesterday) and I feel completely disgusting! I was on the Patch for 3 years prior and never experienced such terrible nausea. But I wouldn't go back to the Patch after all the controversy around it.

I was thinking about switching to Yasmin.

I was curious if anyone is on either one of these birth control pills and what their experiences have been with them.

Also when do you find it is the best time of day to take the Pill. I am taking it at 9pm (in hopes to sleep through any of the side effects) but last night I couldn't even relax because of the nausea.:barf01: :barf01: :barf01:

Any thoughts on Yasmin / Ortho Low will be helpful.

Thanks!!!

Asking medical advice is not allowed on allnurses.com, however, I see no real problem asking others' experiences regarding using a medication. It's a rather gray area, so I did not close the thread.

I will, however, on behalf of allnurses.com, strongly caution the OP she should visit her personal health care provider for *BEST* advice regarding oral contraceptive use and other medical advice. Your personal physician/NP is privvy to apropos medical history and conditions that affect the choices best made in your situation.

I will also ask those answering just relay your personal experiences with the medications, no more. Thanks for understanding.

I meant no harm from this thread. I know the rules on this web site and I wasn't intending or trying to break them!

I simply wanted to know other people's experiences with their form of Birth Control, so that I would be able to form an idea of what I want to try myself. I did already contact my doctor.

I wasn't asking for advise, I was only asking for past experiences / stories.

I do apologize for any harm.

I started using Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo 6 months ago after I had issues w/regular Ortho...and I love it. However, I did experience nausea when I took the pill without food. Now, I take it in the AM right before I eat and I haven't had any nausea since. Try taking it with food and see if that helps the nausea. Other than that...I've had no problems with Lo.

Yasmin works wonders for me. I initially started on it because I had a large cyst on my ovary, and my doctor wanted to stabilize it. It didn't make it go away, but it kept it from growing, and bought me a few months before I had to have surgery so that I could finish the semester out. That was a year ago, and I still take it because I love the short, light periods. Also, I have NO PMS. :)

Actually, I think you may have misunderstood. I said this thread was "ok" here. If it were out of TOS compliance, it would have been closed. I believe no harm is done in asking others' personal experiences here, as you did. You are correct; you did NOT ask anyone for medical advice, therefore, the thread remains open.

I am sorry if you misunderstood my note. Just carry on.....:)

I am taking Yasmin and I like it better than Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo. For me, I had less side effects. With Yasmine I only get nausea if I take it in the morning. I have to take it before bed time. Now for a past few months I started getting the "generic brand" of Yasmine, and I still like it, it is just cheaper.
