Have you ever been hit by a patient?

I was talking with a friend who told me how angry she was with her nurse the whole time and that she wanted to hit her but after it was all done she thought she was the nicest thing. So has anyone ever been hit or bit or screamed at by a patient?

:roll :roll Hit, pinched, slapped, cussed, hair pulled, everything you can imagine! I try to be understanding and kind, but one thing stands out in my memory. And everytime I see this girl in the grocery store I cringe. It wasn't funny at the time, but now is totally laughable......:D

The doc was running late (so what's new) and the baby was crowning. The bed was already broken down, everything was in place, I was standing at the foot of the bed, just ready to play catch. I wasn't even examining her, sterile gloves, etc.....had my hand down on her to keep her from tearing if possible........and......

ugh......:imbar she clamped her knees on each side of my head....Hard! My ears were ringing and my face was just toooooooooooo close...... It took her husband and another nurse to get me out. I honestly felt like pinching her! But all went well. Doc made it in time, wonderful delivery, but for me........ugh to close for comfort..

Yes I was hit in the head by a confused patient with a telephone. Hurt like heck. I was instantly pissed......put his leathers back on LOL..........and filled out an incident report..................

I have been threatened a few times, nothing serious though, mainly just verbals.

As I have got older, I do not tolerate abuse. I explain our hospitals zero tolerance policy, that usually does the trick.

Having said that, I have yet to see the zero tolerance policy put into practice. My colleague handed in her notice after being slagged off by a patient. The hospital managers did nothing.:(

I find if I treat people (even the objectionable ones) with respect, situations don't get oout of hand.

OK, Dianne SOOOOOO wins the prize here! Too funny!

when i worked psych i was hit several times , even had a chair and television set thrown at me. luckily the worst injury i ever got there was a scatch across my face and right eye.

in L&D i have been hit, kicked, scratched, had telephone thrown at me and even bit once right on right breast. so you see i know what it feels like to be latched on to:):)
