Hi,

If some of you OB nurses would so kind as to give me some insight, I would appreciate it.......

I just got back from my OB doc for my 32 week appointment and I was measuring HUGE....like 40 weeks. My GTT was perfect...76-fasting and 95 at the 3 hour. My NST today was great. I was told at my 20 week u/s that I had a fibroid cyst...from what I gathered, kinda big. I know that these things can get larger w/ pregnancy. I have gained quite a bit of weight in the past couple of years from 2 pregnancies close together and I know that the extra weight may contribute also.

My question is..... in your experiences, have you seen a fibroid make someone measure that large? Also, what is the risk of bleeding?

I am scheduled for an u/s in 2 days but I am going crazy with worry....thinking polyhydramnios.....I know "just enough" about OB to know that is not a good thing. (CNS, digestive problems)

~Thanks!~

Hmmmm. The largest fibroid i've seen was the size of a grapefruit, but i wouldn't know if that would make someone measure 8 weeks further along though.

Thank you, Marie, for responding.

For some reason, I don't get too many responses on this message board so I thank you for your input.

Might just be that it's not an easy question to answer?

I'm not an OB nurse but a friend of mine had the same thing. Her fibroid was almost as big as the baby!! Made her look and measure at 5 months like she would at 9 months. Her doc wanted to take it out while she was pregnant as it kept getting bigger. At about 6 months the fibroid stopped growing so they decided to wait till delivery to take it out. She then went into labour before her c-section was schedualed, so she had a vag delivery with no complications. The baby is 5 months old now. They are just taking a wait and see approch at the moment. She and the baby are doing great.

Although I haven't actually been told that you'd measure bigger with a fibroid, it would make sense if the fibroid is very large. The biggest I've seen was grapefruit sized and blocked the cervical opening, which required the Mom to have a CS.

Generally, they don't usually cause many problems during pregnancy, and shrink after delivery. The biggest risk for bleeding would be with removing it during pregnancy, since the uterus is more vascular then.

I had my u/s today and found out that the AF amt. is normal and the fibroid is the same size as before. I am measuring big because of the position of the baby. It is breech.....just sitting there like a little Budda.... :) I saw the sweetest baby face!

Thanks to those that responded, you gave me some reassurance for those awful 2 days of waiting.
