OB Clinicals

Published

Hello. I am in my second semester and I start OB clinicals, more specifically post partum. My question is how awkward should I feel in this area. Its bad enough when I feel nervous about giving a med I've never given, so how weird is it going to be when the I am instructing the new mother to wear a supportive bra. Also I am only 23 and I am sure I look young to them. how is all this going to play in to how they perceive the care that I give.

Thanks

My OB rotation was a monumental waste of time. I was the only male in that rotation and the instructor never found a patient for me. Spent the entire time reading charts. Thankfully, it was only half a semester.

As stated I had a great time, which I wasnt expecting! A few of the profs warned me that some mothers may not want me in. As well I read a few books that stated the same!! But in reality, that was not the case. My prof I had for OB was excellent, but I found 1 staff nurse that wasn't very helpful. She was nice and all, but when it came time to ask the parents if they wanted me in the room, she phrased the question in not a positive manner. I was surprised the parents said yes, lol. I even managed to get a tour of the NICU unit and stay for a bit, and that was superb, an area that has caught my interest. I think one has to make the best of it,go inwith a positive attitude and find work!! One day i had a nurse that was busy, so I just latched on to another.
