We've ben hearing about this new Oasis C starting in January, I don't think our agency is preparing us well for it. We're all confused and upset, it sounds awful. What does everyone else think?

Im off work due to health problems, surgery tomorrow so I missed the OASIS training. But my coworkers say its alot longer and more complex and dread it. I plan on trying to look it up online and see what changes have taken place and just HOW MUCH LONGER it is. Our agency did decrease the amount we have to see for fulltime status due to the length of the new OASIS.

It is a little longer. Some of the questions are better, more direct and easily understood, and will create a more realistic picture of the pt. However, some of the questions are fairly complex and the devil (as always) is in the details.
Aside from training the staff, your agency should also be examining their processes, and developing tools to assist the staff in responding to the new process measure questions, which require considerable knowledge of the details of the pt's care at transfer and discharge.
This will be a huge undertaking for us all. At least we're all on a level playing field.
I'm glad your agency is decreasing your pt load due to the new Oasis, ours isn't going to do that. They're so obsessed with their "numbers".

Took a really good class on it (we'll see when I actually have to do a real one) It did away with what I thought was silly questions, and clarified others. I think with all things new, there will be a learning curve but overall good. However, it looks like discharges are going to be a lot more detailed. And you will really have to know what happened during the cert period. So, if you work for someone that only uses their RN's for OASIS visits, you will be in trouble.

Our agency will be doing several inservices on these changes. It will take some time to adjust, but in the end, I think we'll all do fine with it. As with anything "new"... it will take time, and supportive management. :)

I'm new to homecare so I don't have much to compare to. That being said there are a lot of changes with regard to PTs answering drug regimen review questions.
A big change for us is the timed up and go test (tug) to answer M1910.
