Yeah, I feel you on that one BandAidMaid!! I am already completely obsessed with the mail!!! I am hoping it comes way earlier than March 15..I cant stand the suspense!
I am totally at a loss for what the cutoff will be for GPA. I have a 3.7 and the counselor I spoke with when I applied seemed confident that would get in. I guess all we can really do is wait and I see. I would be shocked though if it were as high as a 3.7, because really that figures out to be an A- average and those classes are hard! Best of luck to you! We will all have to let eachother know when we start receiving our letters!!!

I was talking to a woman who I identified as a nurse at my work because she was wearing scrubs. She told me that OCC is so competitive that there are 4.0's only and her fiance is trying to get into the OCC nursing program and can't at a 3.85, but I'm not sure if I believe her. My counselor told me that the GPA of people who usually have Priority I pre-reqs is 3.4-3.5, so it's hard to say!

I totally agree with you.........Can there be 216 applicants with averages of 3.7 or greater when this is the first year that they have gone to this type of admitance criteria ? I mean the previous years it was done by the old way of "wait list", so how many of those students could of had 3.7 averages and up ? It really doesn't make sence, but then either does putting ourselves through this insanity !!!
Agreed! I can't apply until next upcoming December, since I'm a freshman this year, but I have to take full time summer classes since they pushed the application deadline from May back to December. It's very stressful and crazy! Let me know if you get in. I was thinking about applying at WCCCD or OU because I'm not sure how long I'll be waiting.

I'm just starting off at OCC and cant believe that you have to be a straight A student to get into nursing school. Why do they say that you need a 2.0 or higher in the catalog? Why dont they say a 3.0 or 3.5 for that matter? If I was to pull a couple of B's should I just quit? I have to pay for all my own school and dont even have the money for it. I can barely pay my bills as it is so am making a big investment. Any suggestions on what to do with the pre-req's if not accepted into n.s.?
Hi Anne.....
Oh I hope these posts are not scaring you off. Please do not change your dreams based on information that is not CONFIRMED. These are all speculations. Don't give up on your goals if you WANT to be a Nurse. OCC is doing this GPA thing for the first time. They will tell you that they DO NOT know where the GPA cut off will hit. They have made possible predictions, BUT I think that they really DO NOT KNOW. This March will be a different thing when the letters go out telling us whether or not we make it in.
In my opionon, WHICH IS JUST THAT,..I think that the GPA cut off will probably fall around 3.3. Please remember that is nothing more than a hunch.......That's just me trying to make sence of all the static out there that I have heard between students and the staff. Somethings to keep in mind. Take only one or 2 classes at the most as you work on your pre req's. (Especially Micro and Anat 1 & 2) You will get a better grade, you won't put out as much money all at once, and you will have known you did your best. Take it one test:icon_roll at a time.
Band-Aid, thanks for the reply . I am getting a bit scared off. I am planning on taking only 1 or 2 classes at a time because I am older and havent been in school in a long time, also I have 4 kids. I will probalby have to work part time too and that is something new for me. I want to take Chemistry and English in the fall of 08. Right now I'm taking math since I have been out of high school for almost 20 years it means that all the classes I took back then I have to take over because I dont remember from that long ago.
Anne, I don't think you should get discouraged. If it ends up that OCC doesn't accept you, there are many other colleges that most likely will. Just create a GPA goal? 3.0 and above should be great for many nursing schools. My counselor told me that nursing school was so competitive because the teachers make less money than actual nurses, therefore there's a shortage of nursing teachers.
