Hi everyone,

Im new to the website. I am currently taking pre-req classes at occ highland lakes campus. Planning on applying for the nursing program in December 2018. Is there anyone in the same boat?

If anyone has any questions let me know I’m currently in the program!

Haha so many questions!

When do you know 100% you've been accepted into the program?

Uniform says olive green, is it dark or light? Can you get the scrub pants that are jogger style? The jacket, are there specifics for that too?

Can I start doing the certifications required through the ACEMAPP site? It doesnt say a specific date for those just needs to be annually renewed...

What do you wish some one would have told you?

You know you’re 100% in the program when you receive your acceptance letter. You will get a packet that will explain everything to you with directions and due dates. Everything else will be explained during orientation. You cannot do the certifications in Acemapp now. Depending on your start date you will be given a timeframe to do it. I was Winter start so I couldn’t do mine until October I believe. There’s no rules against jogger style scrubs, but I would wait to see how strict or “old school” your instructor is. I’ve never seen anyone wear them, so I honestly can’t answer that question.

Well your 100% once you get the acceptance letter and complete all the requirements. Uniform as long as you have olive green bottoms and white top you will be fine, but you won’t really need any of that right away. After pharmacology you’ll need your scrubs.
Acemapp will be completed Depending on what start day you pick!

Where are the the clinical sites and is there a math test every semester? Is math taught in the program?

Your pharmacology class has some math in it and you will have a med cal homework clinical can be anywhere but you won’t know where your going for awhile. also I recommend taking pharmacology by itself if your a person who is good at math and a fast learner do pharmacology in Summer, if not then do it in the Winter. The Summer class will be 7.5 weeks and the Winter class is 15 weeks

@ashleemariee I asked for Winter start.

Are there specific places they have you get the background check and fingerprinting done?

The background check you pay for through some website I forgot and I went to the police department for my fingerprints. The packet is a little overwhelming at first but theyll let you know everything they need and when In the packet. And just about the math..for pharm it’s pretty much self taught, the teacher doesn’t have much time in class (I took pharm in the Summer) to teach it to you. But it’s not too bad you just need to study it and at the beginning of every class after foundations you will have a medcalc test on your first day so make sure over the break between each class you study that bc It keeps coming back. I wouldn’t worry about scrubs and stuff yet bc I didn’t know until I started that you don’t even go to clinical til you’re halfway through foundations so they ease you into the 4 days a week slowly. That’s one other thing I wish I knew beforehand is how our schedules look, after you get through that halfway mark of foundations and start clinical you’re schedule is Monday lecture, and then you’ll have lab one day a week and you go to clinical 2 days a week and then once you get to your level 3 classes you don’t have lab anymore but you have that 4 day schedule for the next 3 classes after foundations. And every lab after foundations is in Southfield. A lot of info but this was all stuff I wasn’t aware of until I got in so hopefully that makes sense.

All incredibly helpful and super appreciated! I'm such a planner so the more I know before the better ????? Was the website iChat by chance for the background check?

Me again ? What are the class time slots? I know am and pm but are there specific times? Is it different depending on if it's lab or class, clinicals? Thank you ?

For pharmacology you won’t have labs Just theory on Monday, once you get into foundations you will have theory normally on Monday and then labs Tuesday Wednesday or Thursday Friday, then once your in clinical you will have clinical Tuesday Wednesday and lab 1 day a week, or clinical Thursday Friday with 1 lab a week.

When do they inform you of your start date? Asking for myself and some others in the program were also curious ?
