Hi everyone,

Im new to the website. I am currently taking pre-req classes at occ highland lakes campus. Planning on applying for the nursing program in December 2018. Is there anyone in the same boat?

Specializes in Pre-Nursing Student.

Hi! I'm new to the website and have a few questions in regard to the OCC Nursing program. I haven't attended school since 2009 and well let's just say when I went to school originally (2006-2009) I didn't do so well and definitely had some attempts in my prerequisites. I finally know what I want to do and get into the nursing program here but it sounds like with the number of attempts in my prerequisites I have no chance whatsoever in ever getting into the nursing program here. Anyone have any experience in having numerous attempts at prerequisites and getting into the program or should I start looking into transferring to somewhere else?

Hello I do know your biology classes do expire after 5yrs so you will need to retake those, I don’t believe it will count as a retake. I do know for every class you retake you lose a point

Hey everyone!

I'm going to be aiming to start OCC's program in September. Can anyone tell me how the program has been going for them?

Congrats on your September start. For me the program has been fine. Only issue I don’t like is the scheduling.I seem to know where I have to be at the last minute. Besides that it’s a great program I feel they’re setting me up well.

Thank you!! Has it been as difficult as you thought it would be? Or does it become easier once you get the hang of it? I'm excited, just nervous. I have always been a 4.0 student but I heard that tends to change once you start the nursing program LOL. Thanks for the response!

Hello all,

I am starting OCC's upcoming Nursing program 2020/21 as I have just received my acceptance letter. The letter indicated that an additional packet will be coming in April, I was hoping if anyone could recall approximately when that packet came in April? Also when the deadline is to have the background/fingerprint/ drug screen completed.

Thanks for any responses.

First of all, CONGRATULATIONS! Secondly, take a deep breath and enjoy this moment, bc the roller coaster ride is about to begin! If I remember correctly, the welcome packet arrived around the first week of April. The background check, drug screen, and fingerprints were due the first week of May. A month may seem like a long time, but get started as soon as you get your packet especially with everything going on now you may have more obstacles. Physical exam, proof of Vaccines (MMR, Varicella, Hep B, Tdap, and TB), and your BLS cert aren’t due until beginning of August. Again, get started ASAP bc a lot of Dr offices are almost impossible to get into right now. Good luck and welcome to the program!!

Thank you! And thank you for the quick response it was very helpful, I will definitely get the ball rolling ASAP ?

Hi! This info is super helpful, do I need to get my BLS through the red cross specifically or is it okay to take it at any place that offers the training that is red cross certified? Thanks in advance for your reply!

I took my class through a private instructor who was certified through the American heart association. Both the AHA and Red Cross were allowed. I would hold off on taking your BLS and getting your TB right now though. I believe you have to get those both done in July specifically. I just remembered there was a specific month you had to do them so that all of the students were on the same time frame for expiration dates.

Okay is that something they tell you in the packet or more at orientation?

I just downloaded the nursing handbook it is all in there! Thank you again!
