Oakland community college 2016 applicants

Published

Hello everyone,,

is is anyone here waiting for their acceptance letter to Oakland community college? Also are there any students here that is currently in the program? I am really pump to get started and is looking for any advice I can receive about the program in general.

Well if you do Robert , would you mind letting me know if there is anything due on the first day.. I went Friday to pick mine up and didn't realize that the bookstore was closed every Friday for the summer... which group are you in?

For sure! Actually, look me up on Facebook...Robert Boyce. I went there too on Friday not realizing that there are closed then...oops. I believe I am Group D. I am taking Pharm and Foundations this semester. How was Pharm? Any tips/tricks you can give? What group are you in?

I'm in group D too so I guess we'll be seeing each other!!! But I don't know if you noticed or not that for pharm they want you to have like the first 9 chapters read before class...if you can do it then awesome, it'll help make some of the PowerPoint stuff make more sense. On the inside back cover of the clinical calc book there are formulas, those are your life for this class! learn them, memorize them, practice them! There is a great deal of homework, so be ready to have no free time outside of class. Lastly if you don't take good notes and the teacher allows it, record the lecture. It'll help you when you go back over your notes. I actually gotta brush back up on some of the formulas really quick and the drugs because I've lost a lot of that information in the two months I've been outta class... i guess if you don't use it you really do lose it. Hope some of this helps...I'll look for you on fb too.

Yikes! I didn't realize all the reading before class. I know what I'm going to be doing my days off of work next week. Lol! Thanks for the heads up.

Double check the syllabus...it was 9 chapters for my class but it's also a shorter class...it may not be as much for the 15 week class... no problem though

Hello All!!

Summer is officially over for us...Yikes!!! :nailbiting: Hope everyone is ready to put their lives on hold for the next couple years...I know I am. But I know I'm late but did anyone grab the syllabus yet?? If so which chapters are included in Unit 1 readings? I just started reading from Ch 1 and don't want to read all 8 chapters of I don't have to. Please help me and Thank You!!:bookworm:

Are you talking about for pharm or fundamentals @tbell429?

I'm sorry...Fundamentals

Oh I don't know either @tbell429... I haven't even gotten all my books yet.. I read the syllabus but it doesn't look like there is any before class reading to be done..it does look like alot of scattered reading between multiple books though. I'm hoping she's going to explain that in class though. Which group are you in?

Ok thanks! I'm in group C. Only reason I have all my books is because my sister graduated last year and most of the books are the same. But I did rent the theory book off amazon for $45 for both volumes. That's the best deal if you were interested. Some of the other smaller books like the dictionary and med term book is an edition lower but I'm still going to use it. A dictionary is a dictionary. Which group are you in?

I'm in group D.... I am supposed to get my theory books today.. I ordered mine for $45 too off knetbooks. I paid extra to expedite shipping though. I borrowed a few books and checked out a few from my jobs library.. I'm really frugal lol. I'm going to rent the last two I suppose since I can't find them through my other resources... but that's awesome your sister had them to give you! Did she give you any pointers going into the program?

Ok well that was smart thinking of you. The only pointers she had for me was study study study and to stay ahead on all my work. Don't fall behind because it's hard to catch back up. She said study groups are a plus. It helps keep you on top of everything because it's going to be a lot of stuff due back to back and it's tough to keep up with. :nailbiting: But she did say she wouldn't describe the program as hard like everyone else...more as very time consuming. A lot of work which takes a lot of effort. That eased my nerves a little going in. Just a little though
