What visa are they planning on bringing you over to the US with? If immigrant then you are currently looking at 6+ years wait for a visa. H1b is minimum BSN and experienced or exceptional skills.

OPG can not guarantee where you will end up. Many states are now looking at enforcing US SSN with application, some have already started, so instead of looking at OPG I would be looking at finding a state to register with, meet their requirements and pass NCLEX.

Also where are you and how long ago did you qualify?

This thread is about the US if asking about another country then it will depend on the country and their immigration requirements, going via a agency will not bypass requirements either for immigration or nursing

Hi I am also interested in finding out about nursing in the states, I am a British Citizen and I know i have to do NCLEZ and also get my RN - qualification check by the GNCFS?? I have under a years experience however, this is forthe near future after gainning another years experience., Can you please let me know about the preocess.

Also, i came across the Peyton and Ogeady international - could you shed some light as i am thinking of contacting them .

Generally nurses obtain immigrant visa which currently is taking over 6 years. OGP will not make it any quicker. Starting point would be what state do you plan on living and working in? Most states require CGFNS CES report and I would recommend getting full course by course. Depending on when you trained you may find you do not meet requirements unless your transcripts show clinical and theory hours in Paeds, Mental Health, Obstetrics and Adult

Im planning on New York. I qualified in 2010. And RN- children/ Peadiatrics. Where I only did some of the other sections you mentions but as you know the UK we do specialist areas which mine was children.,#

I have previously lived in states in NH yearsssss agao and so i do still have a SSN. I heard that New York states would be able to take UK Peads train nurses for say children hospitals there. Please clarify or give any information where I start my research for new york RN etc thats Work visa, or immigration info.

Also, is there a way hospitals can employ on a specific and if short they would apply to train me on the job? I am not sure what this is called but a US citizen told me this?/

Unless you meet BON requirements and they do require Paeds, Mental Health, Obstetrics and Adult (clinical and theory) then I doubt they will allow you to work in just Paeds as they do not have a category for it. US training is general. Best bet would be to contact the BON but NY have a lot of experienced and New Grads struggling for work and hospitals have been closed so finding a employer will be difficult. If BSN then hospital may employ you for H1b but that is a specialist role and expensive (they have to pay all fees) and unless you have experience in an area that is in short supply expect that to be hard otherwise looking at EB3 which will take over 6 years and that is once you have passed BON requirements and NCLEX and find a employer willing to wait that long.

Also just to note there currently isn't anywhere in the UK where you can make up hours both clinical and theory in the subjects you are short on

Hi there,

Looking for some advice too. Just completing my return to practice in the UK after a break of 10 years. Educated at present to diploma level, and looking for some input as the best areas to work to gain as much experience as would be required to work in the USA. Thinking at the moment of trying for OR, theatres here in the UK. Would you advise going with an agency that say they can get you into the States, or trying to do it on your own with NCLEX etc? Do have a friend who worked in the States for 5 years, going orginally with Peyton O'Grady, but this was a good 8 years ago. Looking for any input, all will be gratefully received. Thinking of FL at the moment as I have family who live there. Thanks in advance.

Going via agency makes no difference and you don't really have a choice on where to live and work. Not sure if they are accepting anyone at the moment due to retrogression.

My suggestion is meet state requirements and pass NCLEX then try to find employer willing to go the immigrant route. From what you state you don't meet H1b requirements as BSN is minimum or 12 years work experience

Wouldnt my Diploma which was 3 years count and therefor only require 1 year = 3 years of work experience? Or am I reading this H1B visa stuff wrongly? So damn confusing. After I qualified originally I worked for 6 years, break for 10 years, now doing return to practice. Would I need to do another 3 years recent work experience in that case? Sorry for sounding totally dumb here.
