I will be graduating with my BSN in may. NYU is definitely higher than $64,000. That is the lowest I heard of any nursing salary in NYC. I spoke with NYU a few months ago and was told it is $72,000.
I'm pretty sure the base salary at NYU for a new grad is in the $64K range. Could it be that $72K is included for the experienced, BSN, and evening differential?
I'll be graduating from NYU in May 07' and attended an on-campus job fair for nursing students last semester. We asked all the recruiters about the base salary for a new grad and all of them gave a range of low $60K to high $60K. Therefore, I don't think any hospital in New York City will pay a starting salary of $72K to a new grad without BSN and evening differential--that is just way too much!
Jill, do you have nursing experience? did you ask the HR about the base salary in NYU?
from what I know, the base salary in NYU is $65k. I hope you are right, NYC has the highest cost of living here in US and new grads in CA get $72k/yr, I hope it's the same way here in NYC.
Please update me. thanks.
One more thing I would like to add, NYU requires all RN that they hire to work for a minimum of one year...well, if they are a Magnet designated hospital, I don't think that they have to do this because they do not have to oblige the nurses to work for them. In Magnet hospitals, nurses would want to work in these hospitals that promote a good working environment, encourages nursing autonomy and boosts the nursing professional practice through awards and recognition. So far, this is the only hospital that I have known that requires a one year contract...
