Hi everyone! I'm applying for the NYU Spring 2015 ABSN program and haven't been able to find any threads about the program yet. Feel free to post questions you have or to share information about the program, your personal stats, advice for writing the personal statement or just to say hi. Here's to speedy acceptances and a fun future in nursing! :)
My Stats:
Just graduated from Brooklyn College with a B.S. in Psychology and an overall GPA of 3.38
Got an A in almost all the pre-reqs, don't know the pre-req GPA
Volunteered as an EMT for 4 years and worked for 2 years
Worked as a Direct Care Worker for 1 year
Volunteer in Methodist Hospital in the Stepdown Unit
I just found out I was accepted to NYU for Spring 2015 today!!! I'm sure they're still sending out acceptances!
I went to NYU for undergrad, graduating in 2011 with a BFA in Theatre from Tisch School of the Arts (I know -- weird, right?). I also got into Dominican College of Blauvelt for Summer and Pace Pleasantville for Spring 2015. I took both Anatomy & Physiology I & II online at Ocean County College and took Statistics at NYU College of Nursing; all the other prereqs I took as in-person classes at several CUNY schools. I had been trying to secure a good volunteer position in NYC, but it didn't work out in time for me to apply to nursing programs, so I have no recent, relevant volunteer experience. I did work at a human genetics lab for one month in Germany, at a university where my cousin was the head of the Human Genetics Department; this was a high school internship 8 years ago, but I analyzed real clients' amniocenteses, screening fetal DNA for chromosomal defects and to determine their sex. Other than that amazing experience, I have no clinical or volunteer experience directly related to nursing. Until I took the prerequisite classes for NYU and Pace, I had not taken any college-level math or science courses, but I had taken several psychology courses at NYU. Photography is considered a science course for theatre and other arts majors at Tisch; the standard liberal arts core requirements are very different, with no traditional math or science required at all, and I only took psychology courses because I'm really interested in the subject. I just wanted to share this info because I doubted myself so much because my background is so different from nearly everyone I've met or even heard of being accepted to the schools I applied to. My mother is a doctor and I've always loved science, and have always been surrounded by medical professionals; there are several reasons why I'm becoming a nurse, and although thanks to my mother, a career in health care feels natural, taking the first required classes was really, really daunting at first, both academically and emotionally. I want to share my sentiment, that you should just always have faith in yourself, and back it up with hard work because it can and will pay off! I wish everyone so much luck & hope to hear about more people getting accepted soon! :)
I'm a former NYU ABSN student who transferred to a different program after a semester a few years ago. I just realized that I still have my NYU scrubs and have them listed in an auction on Ebay right now starting at $0.99 if anyone is interested. I know that they're much more expensive in the bookstore (what isn't expensive at NYU, lol).

Hey all! I am still waiting to hear back
I wanted to know if the people who already heard back and got accepted are from New York area? I'm from California so I am wondering if they first tell the people who live closer to the area before out of state students? Anyone know any info on that?
