NYU Hiring Process

Published

Hey everyone,

Has anyone recently gone through the hiring process with NYU? If so, how did it go and if you had to do that med math exam do you have any tips or what to study?!

Thank you!

Hi!

I just started the hiring process as well (start date is now Dec. 9th). I took the med calc test with HR and am just waiting on NYS to endorse my license from FL. Did you go to school in New York? I am having so much trouble with NYS licensing (it has taken over a month and a half for them to just look at paperwork and give me my RN number for NY).

Not sure if I can be of much help since we seem to be at the same level but let me know!

NYU sent me a link to input my references and asked me to choose dates for an exploratory interview.. I’m not sure what step I’m at but maybe you have advice? but what did you think of the med math test?

And yup I went to school here and just got my license! The state did take a while to process my education for me to be eligible so I kind of know how you’re feeling.

Did you meet with the Nurse Manager of the unit you applied to? The med calc test was so easy, I just reviewed the practice test they sent over in the HR email and then was good to go! The Interview was also pretty laid back, the HR lady was really nice and asked questions like "Tell me about a time you made a mistake and how you fixed it?" "Tell me about a time you were in an emergency situation- either in clinical or a prior job- and what you did to ensure that the patient had the best care" "Tell me about why you want to work at NYU/Why you applied to blah blah unit".

How long did it take for you to get your license??

I just got hired by NYU and am starting in November. The math test is super easy and is similar to the study guide they email you.

The hiring process took a long time for me as I did my phone interview in end July and my in-person in mid august and finally got hired mid-october but the recruiters have all been super nice in keeping me updated.

No not yet, I think it’s a general RN position interview? I have the interview with HR and she just sent me that guide you mentioned for the med calc test! I got it about a week after I took my test!

Congratulations! And wow that is a while. I did a phone screen about a week ago and will be going in to meet with HR in 2 weeks and take that test! Hopefully it goes well and the schedule me to meet with a unit manager.

Thanks! Honestly the process from phone to HR interview/In-unit interview was pretty quick but the waiting after took the longest. I had a different process because I did my HR interview and in-unit on the same day. My advice for the unit one is to bring in several copies of your resume because my interview was an interview with the manager and two other people.

And definitely follow up with the recruiter often after your in-person interview. I made sure to interview my recruiter every 2 weeks for updates and the day I got hired, I emailed her again and she told me a spot just opened but there were 3 people on the waitlist but I got the call 20 minutes later that I got the offer. Definitely keep your name on their mind.

NewgradRN_19 I also got hired in-unit and had a nurse manager and HR interview in the same day! I have been in constant contact with my recruiter. I have an occupational health physical and HR meeting later this week so I will let you know how it goes if you want.

Do you know your schedule yet for orientation/holidays (if we get off since we will be in the classroom for a month)? I start Dec. 9th and wasn't sure what the format would be like! Thank you!

I don't have alot of info on orientation because I haven't gotten any emails about it. I think I should get an email regarding it next week so I can let you know then.

Hello! I am just wondering if any of you applied through the nurse residency link or if you just applied to open positions? And how long did it take from when you first applied to hearing from HR. I applied about 2 months ago to every open position and have not heard from HR. I tried to reach out to nurse recruiters to no avail. Losing hope here. Thanks in advance!

I was pretty different. I connected with a recruiter while in school and continued to follow up until I got my RN license!
