I almost forgot-
You won't have class on days that you have clinical. And, as for the BLS cert, NYU paid for us to do it the weekend before school started (right after orientation). It was good too- it only took 2.5 hours as opposed to other ones that I have taken that were much longer. I would call the nursing office and find out if they are going to do this again as it would be one less thing that you have to pay for.

If you guys don't mind me asking, I was just wondering how you are planning to pay for NYU? Are you taking out a large amount in loans? My financial aid package left a lot of tuition to be covered, so I was just wondering what most students to/plan to do. Thanks!

Hi gogatsby- I will be taking out loans on top of the financial aid package that I received! I'll be in debt, but educational debt is the best kind of debt to be in!

I just turned in my FAFSA so I have no clue what the financial package will look like, but I'm prepared to take out loans for the tuition. It helps that I had a full merit scholarship for my first degree, so it's not like it's adding to an existing debt.

I really don't think it's that bad, yes it would have been nice if my debt was only $18k or whatever SUNY's accelerated programs' cost, but I didn't get accepted in Stony Brook and by the time I got the waiting list offer from Downstate I realized I really didn't want to go there. NYU became my only choice- unless I wanted to wait a semester or so, and apply to other accelerated and associate programs. The premium I pay to get started sooner and get a BSN is more than fair. The BSN preference is my own, it's not based on employability and salary.

I guess it's my first degree's influence (Finance and Investments), but this is how I approach the loan. You take out a loan for a house, 400k+, but part of the justification is that it will appreciate and you could reasonably expect to recoup that when you sell the house in 10-20 years. A nursing degree is no different- if you work in NYC as a nurse and work overtime, it's very reasonable for you to be able to pay the student loan within 2 years, if not earlier. It helps of course if you decide to stay with your parents until then

Has anyone heard anything regarding orientation/registration for the Fall '07 accelerated program at NYU? I will be attending and am anxiously awaiting "more" news! :rolleyes:

Someone from the NYU office called me up two days ago to ask for my A&P grades (I just finished A&P this semester), which leads me to believe that they are busily preparing packets to send out to this September's Accelerated class... (well, hopefully). I asked the woman who called when to expect info regarding registration, and she just said that the info would be in the mail "Soon"....

I just registered! I live in NYC so I'm sure that helped me get it first. It took a bit of time, searching what fits etc.

I got the mail yesterday, you get instructions on how to get your NYU account setup and then register for classes. Once that's done you'll have to send them the registration worksheet with the envelope enclosed in the package. I am entering their accelerated program.

hello everyone,

I'm looking to apply for nyu's Accelerated BSN program (Spring 2009) and I'm curious what their statistics are like.. I'm from southern california and the schools here (i.e. UCLA and UCSF) are just too much (3.9 gpa won't get you in). How competitive is the accelerated BSN program? Would anyone who got in mind sharing their stats with me? Just so I prepare myself for either an acceptance or rejection =) What other things did you do? volunteering, research? do they look at your 1st BA or BS degree gpa at all?

anything would help!

CityKat, I was accepted to Adelphi for the Spring semester and would be taking all my prereqs during that semester. After completion, am I then matriculated into the accelerated nursing program?? Thanks for your help!

If you directly applied to the NURSING program itself and were accepted, then you were both accepted into the university AND into the nursing program. I am fairly confident that is correct, but you can always contact the nursing office and find out for 100%.

You will be starting your prerequisites and eventually, you'll be in nursing classes. You SHOULD have an assigned counselor and they will guide you. I was already done with my prerequisites and so I went directly into nursing classes.
