NYP Pharmacology Exam

Updated:   Published

Hi Everyone!

I know that there have been questions like this in the past but the last one I have seen was in 2012.

I had my interview at NYP/Columbia and I accepted an offer. I now have to take the Basic Medication Administration Exam in order to actually start working there. This is my dream hospital and I have to send in my letter of resignation to my current job soon. I need to pass this on the first try in order to avoid any delays.

Has anyone recently taken it or is scheduled to take it? How did you study for it? I've read in previous threads that there was an NLN practice exam for $10 which closely resembled the type of questions asked on the NYP exam. Does anyone have access to it?

I have a short time to study and I really want to increase my chances of passing it.

Thanks in advance.

I passed! Just follow the review provided and don't over study.

Hi, I am going to take this exam next. Did you take the exam from the RN.com study guide? Do you suggest any websites to study from?

Thanks!

I studied for it using my old pharmacology book. I found test review questions on nln.com and I followed the study guide. Everything they mentioned in the review came on the tests. It was a simple test but would seem a bit tricky if you over studied. Good luck! Btw what unit were you hired for?

Hi everyone!

I I know this is an old post but I've been hired on the SICU at Columbia and already handed in my resignation to my current job. Now Columbia just told me I have to take this dreaded pharmacology exam! And have to pass it in two tries or my job offer will be rescinded! I went over the study guide ( the RN.com one) and expanded the bullet points but all said and done my study guide ended up 30 pages long!! I would greatly appreciate any tips and/or review guides on this test I don't want to over study and get myself crazy over something that should be relatively simple! Any suggestions would be lovely!!

Thanks!!!

did you take it? If so, how did it go? I will be taking it on Friday and I've been following this study guide.

Hey guys! How long after the pharm exam did you start orientation? Also what's the orientation phase like?

It really is a basic exam. Follow the study guide that they give you and also just go over topics related to what is on the study guide. Side effects were big on the test. Let me know how you did!

About two weeks after. You have a general orientation the first two days with all professions. Then you go to the nursing orientation about one week in class. They take you to do skills like Iv insertion and how to use their iv pumps, glucometers, tube feeding pumps. You learn their ehr and then you have your orientation on the floor.

Hey guys .. so I accepted an offer at NYP and I start in like 2 weeks. The TAS said the study guide for the exams would be on the onboarding portal but I don't see them there. Did it take a few days for them to come up? taking them next Friday along with doing a physical and all that other fun stuff. How are you all liking it? I'm super excited.

One more q .. I accepted a night shift position .. how long until I actually start on nights?
