NYP New grad position

U.S.A. New York

Published

Hello.

I recently applied for a new grad position at NYP and I got an email saying my app is currently "being considered" for the new grad opportunity and they will "contact me within the next 2 weeks regarding next step/status etc".

Does that mean I have a chance to land an interview, or is it what everyone gets after they apply?

It was not a computer generated email.....but an email from an actual person......

Any feedbacks will be greatly appreciated! Thank you :)

Thanks kiki1984, I didn't have a phone interview yet. I wish! I was referring to the questions on the battery test, sorry for the confusion. I hope you move on to in-person:)

@jessie25 ohhhh yea the battery test was tricky but there is a way to answer them. I believe u have to do well on it in order to get an interview with them.

Thanks

ICU and critical care.

- Hate to break it to you but most Patient Care Directors (They don't call them Nurse Managers there) in the ICUs will not accept new grads into ICUs. Unfortunately if you wanted to do ICU straight out of college you probably have a better chance trying a small community hospital depending on where you live. I got into ICU in less than 6 months, and then I spent 1.5 years in ICU before going to work at NYP. The application process is long and arduous. If you've taken the battery then you still have an interview with a Nurse Recruiter and then a PCD before you get offered anything. Then once you get offered a job you STILL have to take and pass a pharmacology exam which can be hard, especially if you are not good at Pharm or didn't pay attention to it. I had 2 years experience when I took it and there were drugs I never heard of or used before, and I JUST passed by 1 question. During my Critical Care training, I can't tell you how many people came in to take the Pharm test and failed. Oh and if you fail the pharm test, they rescind the job offer. Good luck, NYP is a great place to work, but it has it issues. So if you think the grass is greener on the other side you are seriously disillusioned. It can be pretty cutthroat at times, so be prepared. Oh and also NYP/Columbia is NYSNA and Cornell is not.

Thanks for the advice. At this point I just want a job. Some of my older loans are kicking in, my parents put of buying a home to get me through school so now it's time for me to venture on my own. It would be nice to work there but I am not putting my all into it. I will be searching EVERYWHERE :)

I received a call from a talent acquisition specialist last Friday morning inviting me to a new grad event at the Cornell campus to meet with HR staff, PCDs of units that are hiring currently, and selected other new grads. They are sending me an invitation now by mail, and hopefully it will have more information. After the call, I got an email asking me to take the battery test, which I did. Did anyone else get this invite? I am eager to learn more but don't want to get my hopes up too high!

Hi Alyssa, I also got that call last week! I am still waiting for the email though. Don't know much about it yet, but it is exciting!

I also received this call via voicemail. That is different than the phone interview, correct? I am still waiting to hear about the info for the event. Do you think they will send it in the mail or in email?

I also received a message last thursday saying to look out for their email about new grad career events. this was after I took the battery test. Has anyone else received more info on any of these events?

They invited me for a specific date and things like that, but that's all I know--I've been out of town, but she told me they were mailing me a physical invitation. I'm not sure if it's at my house yet though.
