NYP Cornell & Colombia

So I have an interview later this month with NYP at the Cornell campus! I am super excited, and of course very nervous! I am currently working in Michigan at a unionized hospital, and am making the move to NYC soon. Going into this interview I thought that RNs at NYP were unionized in gerenal, but I just came across information stating that the Cornell campus is NOT unionized like the Colombia campus. This makes me nervous. Does this mean that Cornell can start me off at any salary they like? I am hoping there are nurses out there who are familiar with both campuses that could give me some input on this. How are the starting salaries different between the hospitals? What about health benefits, retirement plans (does either hospital do employer matching contributions?), vacation/sick time?? Or anything else you would like to share about these two hospitals are similar and/or different from eachother. I know there are older threads about this, but I would like to get updated comments on this. Thanks!

Your right by what you heard nyp cornell is non union and has a base salary just like any other manhattan hospital. They start in the 70's and pay you for your experience differential. When you go for your interview you will be able to find out in more detail what your concerned about. Good luck!

Just by way of historical presepective, New York Hospital and Columbia Presbyterian-Weill Cornell Medical Center systems only recently merged to form the New York-Presbyterain healthcare system (and rocky merger it was:D). This may go along way to expain the differences you will find at various campus sites within the network.

By most standards, all good priviate hospitals in Manhattan at least (NYP, Mont Sinai, Beth Israel, NYU, etc) start about the same for new nurses, about 70K, with more for BSN and perhaps shift/weekend differential.

Personally my standard advice when interviewing is one given to me upon graduating from college, don't worry too much about wages, benefits early in the game. To qualify for anything you first have to be hired!:D

My friend started as a new grad rn (bsn) working nights in Cornell (NYC) last year - her starting salary is $85k.

I started in january at NYP Cornell and my starting slary is 82k--- that is with 6k night differential

Well I'm just a little confused as I know a new grad who started a year ago on a higher wage, thats all.

during interview my HR rep quoted my salary as $88k (with 4 years experience) and with bonus and OT I will pull in at least. $90K

Remember that the Cornell campus is non-union. So they might negotiate differently, but it is not by a whole lot.

What is the current starting salary for somebody with a bsn and then if you could with 12 years experience?
