  1. I am a new grad nurse. I actually graduated 2 years ago from a BSN program, but because if personal issues, I didnt take my boards until just recently, and then got my first job in a busy hospital in the city. Anyway, I am 2 days into orientation, and I just feel so overwhelmed and depressed. I am scared of my own shadow, I havent even passed meds yet, as I am frightened I'll give the wrong med, or make some mistake. I feel so intimidated by everyone. When I was listening to my preceptor get report, I felt they gave report so fast that I couldnt keep up, and missed alot of the info as I was taking notes. My preceptor seems like a nice person, but I dont find her to be helpful in any way. She has been on the unit 25 years, and I feel like she skims over everything not realizing I dont know anything, probably because its so second nature to her at this point. I was off the weekend and am already getting so upset at the idea of going back to work Monday morning. I know its normal to be nervous, but this is out of control. I am petrified doing anything with a patient as I am afraid I will do something wrong or cause them harm. I don't know what to do. I feel as if I'll never be able to do this job. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm desperate.
  2. To Gotta Love Nursing : I'll check for you re: open houses To RN 418: Cardiac, how about you? Btw, any advice for orientation? Any preparation i should be doing?
  3. Lenox Hill Starting salary: 73k Night differential: $6,000 BSN: $1,300
  4. I'm a new grad. This was my first interview. I kind of just went to the open house upon suggestion by a friend, and ended up having an interview. It all happened very quickly. My friend who works in Cornell said they were hiring on her floor also, and I debated applying there, but there was something I liked about Lenox, so I accepted.
  5. There are a number of different start dates for orientation, so I wouldnt worry about that. I'm pretty sure there are many different start dates throughout the year. I wanted to start in April so I had a choice of 2 different start dates. I went to an open house in March, was interviewed, and they contacted me within 2 days. I was surprised at how quickly it all happened. I do have a BSN, I dont know if maybe that helped. I'm starting orientation this month. If I were you, I would check on the Northshore LIJ website events page, it will show if there are any open houses in the near future, and then you can just attend one, bringing your resume with you. IMHO, you just can't beat face-to-face interaction. I feel as though you have a far better chance that way, as opposed to applying online. Good Luck
  6. Well I'm just a little confused as I know a new grad who started a year ago on a higher wage, thats all.
  7. Just curious, does the 82k include the night diff. or no?
  8. I really appreciate your feedback. Best of luck with your orientation & congratulations on getting the job. Thats approx 80k on night shift, thats awesome. If I accept the position, I think I will start orientation in April.
  9. Thanks so much for posting. Do you know what the night diff. is there? Also, if you dont mind me asking, do you have ADN or BSN? I have been offered a position on nights, and have to go down this week to discuss salary, so just curious. Thanks soooo much for any info. I appreciate it.
  10. Hi. Im just curious what the starting salary for a new grad rn in lenox is. any info greatly appreciated. thanx :)
  11. My friend started as a new grad rn (bsn) working nights in Cornell (NYC) last year - her starting salary is $85k.
  12. So not cool of all you people who post negatively against this girl. She has gone to school and worked hard to make something positive of herself ..........and has almost finished her Nursing degree. For God's sake, give the poor girl a break!!!! I commend you, and I cant imagine how frustrating and difficult it must be in your current situation. You have come here seeking advice, not hatred!! Anyway, I was thinking that perhaps you could try and find a hospital to sponsor you. I think you would first have to take the state boards, pass them, then you would have to try and find a hospital to sponsor you before you would be able to obtain a license. They are crying out for nurses in this country!!! I know somebody who did it that way. She was a friend of my sisters so Im not sure of the exact situation. I would talk to someone at the school in the Nursing dept. and see if they know anything. Otherwise, definitely try and find a good immigration lawyer!! I wish you the best of luck..........and congratulations on almost finishing your degree!!! You should be proud of yourself. :trout:
  13. Hi everybody! I am starting Nursing school in the Fall, and dont know where to find Cpr training for Nursing students. Can somebody please help me and give me some links on how to find out about where to go to get certified? I tried looking on National Student Nurses Org. website and couldnt find anything. Any info would be so greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  14. Mystix! that is so awesome. i have actually been checking this website every night to see if there were any updates with you! :) You are SOOOOOO deserving of this. you have encouraged everybody else here and congratulated everybody on their acceptances, etc, and that musta been so difficult when you were desperately waiting for something yourself. i am so happy for you! you will rock the interview. :balloons: :balloons: :monkeydance: :monkeydance: :trout:
  15. Wow Dean - 159??? Thats insane! You should be extremely proud! :balloons: :balloons: Congratulations!
