Support Stickie for New nurses who are not coping
I am a new grad nurse. I actually graduated 2 years ago from a BSN program, but because if personal issues, I didnt take my boards until just recently, and then got my first job in a busy hospital in the city. Anyway, I am 2 days into orientation, and I just feel so overwhelmed and depressed. I am scared of my own shadow, I havent even passed meds yet, as I am frightened I'll give the wrong med, or make some mistake. I feel so intimidated by everyone. When I was listening to my preceptor get report, I felt they gave report so fast that I couldnt keep up, and missed alot of the info as I was taking notes. My preceptor seems like a nice person, but I dont find her to be helpful in any way. She has been on the unit 25 years, and I feel like she skims over everything not realizing I dont know anything, probably because its so second nature to her at this point. I was off the weekend and am already getting so upset at the idea of going back to work Monday morning. I know its normal to be nervous, but this is out of control. I am petrified doing anything with a patient as I am afraid I will do something wrong or cause them harm. I don't know what to do. I feel as if I'll never be able to do this job. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm desperate.

I'm a new grad. This was my first interview. I kind of just went to the open house upon suggestion by a friend, and ended up having an interview. It all happened very quickly. My friend who works in Cornell said they were hiring on her floor also, and I debated applying there, but there was something I liked about Lenox, so I accepted.

There are a number of different start dates for orientation, so I wouldnt worry about that. I'm pretty sure there are many different start dates throughout the year. I wanted to start in April so I had a choice of 2 different start dates. I went to an open house in March, was interviewed, and they contacted me within 2 days. I was surprised at how quickly it all happened. I do have a BSN, I dont know if maybe that helped. I'm starting orientation this month. If I were you, I would check on the Northshore LIJ website events page, it will show if there are any open houses in the near future, and then you can just attend one, bringing your resume with you. IMHO, you just can't beat face-to-face interaction. I feel as though you have a far better chance that way, as opposed to applying online. Good Luck

Thanks so much for posting. Do you know what the night diff. is there? Also, if you dont mind me asking, do you have ADN or BSN? I have been offered a position on nights, and have to go down this week to discuss salary, so just curious. Thanks soooo much for any info. I appreciate it.

illegal immigrant nurse
So not cool of all you people who post negatively against this girl. She has gone to school and worked hard to make something positive of herself ..........and has almost finished her Nursing degree. For God's sake, give the poor girl a break!!!! I commend you, and I cant imagine how frustrating and difficult it must be in your current situation. You have come here seeking advice, not hatred!! Anyway, I was thinking that perhaps you could try and find a hospital to sponsor you. I think you would first have to take the state boards, pass them, then you would have to try and find a hospital to sponsor you before you would be able to obtain a license. They are crying out for nurses in this country!!! I know somebody who did it that way. She was a friend of my sisters so Im not sure of the exact situation. I would talk to someone at the school in the Nursing dept. and see if they know anything. Otherwise, definitely try and find a good immigration lawyer!! I wish you the best of luck..........and congratulations on almost finishing your degree!!! You should be proud of yourself. :trout:

Where Should I go?
I applied to Hunter Nursing program in March, and was extremely worried and anxious about getting in as I have been constantly reading post after post about Hunter's waiting list, and so i thought there was no hope for me. Anyway, I got my acceptance letter 2 days ago for the Fall 2007 Program. No waiting list!!! Also, I know 2 other girls on this forum who I have been corresponding with since the NLN exam in March, and they also got in for this Fall. So I dont know if its as bad as everyone says. I was completely disheartened by everybody saying theres such a huge waiting list, etc, and was almost coerced not to apply. Boy am I glad I didnt listen! My advice is to not listen to what others say - if i did, i would have made a big mistake. If you want something badly, and are a good student, then by all means go for it!! Just my 2 cents!

I had my Micro lab exam yesterday. Cn you believe I actually thought it was next week? I showed up for class and everybody was studying, so I was like "Oh, do we have a quiz?" and they were like "Hello, its the FINAL." Not quite sure how i messed that one up........but anyway, this year has been weird for me. It actually wasnt that bad. So glad its over. Now i can focus on the Lecture final.

Oh my God, register for classes??? It seems so surreal right now thinking about "registering for Nursing classes." Lol. I have no idea to be honest, but im sure we'll find out soon enough. Do you have all your pre-reqs completed already? I am currently taking Org Chem and Micro. Thank God almost finished!

Calling All Hunter Applicants!
By the way Mystix. Thank you so much for your positive words. Its difficult when you're still waiting for a letter yourself. Dont worry, everything will work out for you. You have everybody here rooting for you too. Wishing you loads of luck, and hope you receive that letter soon!

Calling All Hunter Applicants!
Thats funny - I rarely attend my classes anymore either. This semester was weird. My Org Chem professor is a joke. I pretty much just show up for the exams. I was stressing a bit cos I desperately wanted to get all A's to keep my GPA up, but now after receiving the letter, I no longer care. Its so awesome that we all got accepted. I havent heard anything about SantaCruz though. Im sure she was probably accepted too. Now im already starting to get nervous about Nursing school. :) Always something to worry about....Lol!

Calling All Hunter Applicants!
Hey Everybody! I just opened my letter and I GOT IN!!!! I cant believe it. I actually feel sick to my stomach right now as I have been sitting looking at the letter all day afraid to open it. After leaving out the 20 questions on the NLN exam I thought I was screwed. I am in shock. CONGRATULATIONS TRINI AND CAELUNA - WE MADE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :monkeydance: :monkeydance: I keep thinking they sent me this letter by mistake!
