NYP Columbia vs. Cornell

First off, I'm graduating in May with a BS in nursing. And I'm planning to apply to both Columbia and Cornell. Although I have a lot of good things about Cornell from this website, I haven't seen many posts about Columbia. I actually called both of the hospitals today and found out that Cornell only consider GN for their step-down unit, while Columbia are willing to accept GN to their ICU. I'm leaning towards Columbia right now b/c I really want to work in ICU. Are there any Columbia nurses that can tell me about the quality of the ICU fellowship?? Thanks in advance

I dont know about Cornell...

But I know that Columbia has internship programs for new grads. I think they have ED, PICU, and OR...but i'm 100% sure. I've heard nothing but good things about their programs. They are 1 year long, take you through different, but related areas, and there are no direct patient assignments while you are precepting.

I have applied to their PCICU program...its 3 months in the ER, 3 months in the regular peds floor, then the last 6 months in the area of specialty. I talked to a few nurses who did them, and they all raved about it.

The only accept twice a year, February and August. I would call and find out if they have a similar program for the adult ICU. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions...
