Hello!
This thread is for those of us who are applying for Spring 2014 entry into NVCC's online hybrid RN program. I know applications must be postmarked by October 18th in order to receive consideration. I've looked at past threads for hopeful students and it seems customary to post prereq. GPA and TEAS results, so I'll start:
Prerequisites Completed: BIO 141, 142, 150, and CHM 101. Prereq. GPA: 4.0
Prerequisites in Progress: BIO 101 (coursework will be completed by October 5th)
TEAS Scores: 97.6% in Reading, 100% in Math, 90% in Grammar
The only thing I'm worried about at this moment is making sure that my BIO 101 grade posts by October 18th. My instructor is definitely in my corner in terms of making sure that I meet the application deadline, but my experience with ELI has been far from pleasant (the only certainty with ELI is that Murphy's Law always applies).
And, if anyone who has been through this program is reading, I do have one question: is this program four truly consecutive semesters? That is to say, will it be Spring 2014, Summer 2014, Fall 2014, and Spring 2015? I know that they offer the two nursing classes required for the second semester (Maternal/Newborn Nursing and Psychiatric Nursing) in the summer (well, at least they did last summer). If this is the case, I am even more stoked to begin this program!
I got my acceptance letter for the Spring 2014 class and can't wait. I have finished all non nursing courses except the PSY 202. The counselor told me to take that in the spring. I had a question regarding our schedule. The in person part is how many days a week?
You have clinical, lab and the test that are in person. The tests are one every other week.
Awesome. That doesn't seem to bad.
My neighbor got her provisional acceptance letter while I was out of town as well. I am starting to wonder how strict the program is as her overall GPA was a 3.0 but her pre-req GPA was a 3.7 (maybe that is why).
After the fall semester though her overall GPA will only be a 2.3 due to her not withdrawing two courses and now failing them. Will they keep her in the program until the end of spring semester to see what her new GPA will be or not even let her start? I told her to go talk to the nursing counselor but she is freaking out (little too late).

I don't know about her specific situation. She should talk to a counselor.
Hey guys :) I'm really excited to be starting this program soon! That being said I have friends who have gone through the traditional track, but none who have done the online hybrid. Does anyone have any wisdom to pass on (and is it really that much harder)? Thanks![/quote']I am in the online hybrid and will graduate next May. Lectures are all recorded and online. You don't have the interaction in tradition classroom. The model is team taught, so there are couple of instructors, each of them teaches part of the material. My advice is try to be present, let the instructors know you by showing up to campus, talk to them if you have questions. Go to test review, extremely important. The good thing is the class is small, 1/4 of the tradition class, so it's easy to be noticed. Do the reading, have a great support group of friends, usually your fellow clinicals. Be persistent and persevere, you all get through. The hard part is the nursing test, which is the best intervention, what to do first... I was really struggle with that for the first semester, but then you will get the hang of it.
Good luck!
HI! I'm new to this site and I have a couple questions and I would love if you could answer them with me PLEASE! 1) How many times did you go to the campus a week? 2) Are the lectures live or are they recorded and if so can I watch them over and over again if I want. 3) How many hours a week would one be able to work during the program if I already took all the non-nursing and will be taking only the nursing classes. 4) Can I get help easily from a professor? and 5) About how much did books cost a semester? Thank you so much for you help!!!!! I'm sorry for all the questions!

When I went through, lectures were recorded (audio only), but there were also live meeting sessions online. You went to campus for lab and exams. And study groups. It is recommended you not work more than 20 hours a week. Some work more and can handle it. Some can't handle 20. If you have kids, family and other demands, reconsider working so much. Professors are mostly easy to connect with via email and office hours. Books are all mostly bought up front -- I think our package, which is different from what yours will be was about $1100? Not entirely sure, bought mine right before my OH session at NVCC started (same as hanoi).
