Hello everyone.
I have recently decided to try for the NVCC traditional nursing program. I am excited yet scared. Currently I am doing my pre-reqs (will start in May) and was wondering if someone could tell me what material is required for the SDV 101 class. I am doing that class online. I already have an SDV from a college I attended but read the MEC prefers that you have the SDV 101 as it's related directly to healthcare/the nursing program.
For anyone looking to go for the NVCC program, please advise on anything!
Any and all advice/comments are welcome.

Hi,
I'm hoping to get into the NVCC program in the fall (waiting to hear back in early June). I took the SDV course online, too. My course required a few enova meetings, homework/bb postings and I had to prepare a powerpoint presentation on a career. It was a pretty easy class. I think we only had one book that had general information about medical careers as well as additional vocational information (learning styles, job search, resumes, etc.).
As far as the preparing for the program, I'm not sure what advice I have about the specific courses (are you taking NAS 161/162 or are you going to do A&P, Chem, and Micro?). I would say that if you can get the co-requisites for the nursing program done while you are doing your other prereqs, you should. If I get into the program in the fall, I will only have to take NUR classes which I am hoping will lighten the load a bit. I would also say that when it is time for you to study for the TEAS get the book by ATI. It was immensely helpful to me when I was studying. If you can't buy it, there are copies on reserve at the library.
Good luck with your prep! I know how you feel (was there a little over a year ago), but it will go by fast and I am sure as long as you work hard you'll get where you want to be :)
take care,
Kris
Hi there. Thanks for responding.
Where did you get the book needed for SDV?
I will be taking the NAS classes in the fall & from what I've read they put a lot of focus on the grades of that class.
As for the TEAS, do you mean it's at the NVCC library or elsewhere (another library)?
I wish you luck in getting into the program! Are you going for the traditional nurse track?

Hi - I just finished up SDV101 online! I order the used book through the library. I really enjoyed the class.

I graduated from the nursing program last yr! A friend recently told me that NAS 161/162 no longer transfer to George Mason if you continue on with your BSN with them. No clue if thats true or not! Try and get as many of the non-nursing classes completed prior to program start, will make ur life easier!!
Congrats on your graduation & thanks for that advice.
I start the SDV online this week and it's my first online class so I'm a bit wary. The syllabus says there is a powerpoint presentation required and I've never made on before!
Good luck to everyone!
I think the SDV 101 may have changed since I took it a few yrs ago, but it was an extremely simple class,I thought it was a waste of time. I think its geared to students who are coming straight from High school. It requires nowhere near the studying time one requires for the regular classes, lol Powerpoint is very easy to use! Google is your friend, find many sites that help you with making a Powerpoint presentation as well the school offers free classes on many Microsoft programs! And I believe you have to take a computer competency exam!! That may have changed, but I know we had to! It covered Microsoft Word, Excel, think Power point, Access. Just goto the NVCC.edu home web page, goto the search bar and type in computer competency test, and it should be one of your first selections, and it shows what is covered. Very basic test, but if you have never used any of the listed programs, its not soo easy, lol Best of luck

Congratulations! You made a good choice! I just graduated from Nova, well... officially, yesterday.Feel free to ask any questions. Flames9 got me through my first year of nursing school (thank you, flames9). I hope to be just as helpful  Good luck!
I took ITE115 instead of computer competency exam.
Congrats on your grad! You must be very excited!
Can you take the ITE 115 in place of the computer competency test? I will start ITE in late June.
Thanks for the advice about online and Powerpoint. Will def look into that.
I started an Algebra class last night (not my strongest subject) so I am worried. Do you have to take MTH 151 or you can just have to be able to place into it? Is the math portion very difficult on the TEAS? Should I take the math test fresh out of Algebra or wait?
Do you guys know how many people made it into the nursing program this year and last year?
I took HESI test not TEAS, sorry.

Hey guys I have a question! I just realized that to get into microbiology you have to do a years worth of chem and bio, i'm doing a and p now but i would have taken chem as well this semester if I knew... Do you guys think that if I get a good grade in chem next semester they might waive off the years requirement? also... those who got in the program did you all have your corequisites done? i'm starting to wonder if i would even get accepted into the program without having all of them done first since the program is sooo competive. i'm trying to think how much i should load up next semester... if theres no chance of me getting in otherwise i'll load up, but i would rather not and focus as much as i can on the classes i'm taking. any feedback would be appreciated!!!
