NV nursing student, would like to move to CA

Nurses Career Support

Hi all

I'm currently a nursing student at Carrington College in Reno, NV and will be graduating with an associates in December 2014.. I was going to try and apply for new grad programs in California to be with my boyfriend as we are in a long distance relationship; he is in Southern California.. Any recommendations or advice? I know it'll probably be easier to get a job in Reno but would I get hired in California if I had about 6 month minimum of experience if I decided to stay? I also want to do my bachelor's in nursing in California as well, if the schools will take my credits/I can do it online.. Thanks so much guys, I greatly appreciate it!

You should apply for jobs in Reno and in SoCal... what you need more than anything is some experience... and six months probably won't cut it so you should look at 18-24 months at your first job.

Circumstances have thrice put me into a long-distance relationship with my wife (and twice with my kid)... you do what you need to do in order to earn a living.

Thank you so much for your advice. I will definitely be applying to both Reno and So Cal, I know it will be hard.

A number of folks that I work with came out of Reno after 2-3 years there.

The move to Northern CA might be easier just due to an already established pipeline out of Reno.

Personally, I was delighted the day I saw LA in my rearview mirror as I headed up I-5 with the last of my stuff piled in my truck.

Before you commit to LA, make sure it's really what you want because it's quite unique and not for everybody.
