Nursing work in Scotland for RNs.

Hi. I am a native Scottish lass who was taken to Oz by her parents when little, and now that I have my degree and nearly a years experience under my belt, I wondered what working in Scotland is like? My main areas of learning have been med/surg & psych plus am doing post graduate mental health/renal studies (externally).

I have all the info I need re passports and sponsorships etc, but do you get much work through agencies or should I apply to hospitals directly?

I am sick of the heat here in Australia (though it's freezing at the moment here in Western Australia!), and so want to go back to the country where I was born. I no longer feel as if I belong here in Oz - I never really have. The summers are so sweltering you can't go anywhere and enjoy anything. I just look forward to sitting in air-conditioning when it is so hot. And it is getting hotter and more humid every year, Perth NEVER used to be humid. I want to see & experience snow (though don't really like extremes of weather), but a friend of mine who was in Scotland not long ago said it has not been as cold there & there was a heat wave in Britain? She said everywhere is centrally heated, is that true? I want to explore and research my family's history, visit graves and places I have never seen, see relatives before they die. I would love to experience a real hogmanay, not just hear about it in relative's letters. I want to travel from one end of Scotland to the other end of Britain, and die there.

I hate Australia now, and I want to do different types of nursing in a different place.

So any info on accommodation, prices, work, whatever you want to put here would be great.

Thanks in advance for your time!

Even one or two replies would be appreciated!

If you was born in the UK then you don't need anything like sponsorship because you are already a UK citizen. Finding a job may be the issue and I would say decide where you want to live and work, see what jobs there are and then look for living accommodation.

I would check out this thread because they are in Scotland and having problems finding a job where they live newly qualified still no job - Nursing for Nurses
