Nursing at Towson University

Published

Hello Everyone,

I have applied for BSN at Towson for Spring '09. I have 4.0 GPA in Science Subjects. So, getting in the program should not be a problem. But, who knows!!! Anyways, I have different kind of problem though and see if anyone can give me some guidelines.

I am going to be Out of state student as my husband works in Pennsylvania. So, its going to be an expensive program for me. I was looking online and found that hospitals like GBMC and St. Joseph helps in tuition if you commit to work with them. Does anyone have done this kind of thing before with them? How does it works out usually?

I am very new to this website. But, this looks wonderful. I am getting so much other information from here.

Thanks everyone for sharing such informartion,

You have to work at least part-time as a regular employee, which is hard to do in the hospital as a student. I work at GBMC per diem as a nursing student and I think it's really hard to get a regular part-time jobs as a patient care tech on one of the units without experience. Definitely apply for your CNA after you finish the first semester of nursing classes and then apply to local hospitals. Hope this helps! I'm a 1st semester senior in Towson's nursing program, so let me know if you need any help.

Thanks for the reply. I am sorry I was not that clear in my description earler. I mean if you commit to work with them for few years after graduation. It is just like a scholarship program where they pay for the tuition and you work with them when you are ready. I guess you have to work for them during summer and semester break also. I hope they don't make students work during semester.

Hmm...I think it's alot easier to get tuition reimbursement, but I have heard of these programs. The only way I know this works though is through an externship program or a piad nursing student job and you are still required to work like 8 hours/pay period during the semester. This is not something that's readily advertised and I don't know of anyone in my class who has received this arrangement. It's your best bet to talk to HR.

Thanks again for the feedback. Yeah, you are right. I am not able to find much information about this kind of program also. If I get the admission in TU, I am gonna talk to HR and see what they says.

I do not have any previous experience in the nursing. So, I am also little bit scared that how I am gonna manage the whole thing even if I got admitted. Do you think It is going to be a struggle for me to go through this program.

I know it sounds crazy that I have already started thinking about all these things without even getting admission confirmation. But, I couldn't help.

I had the same problem. I was SCARED to death when I had my first clinicals. At the time I was living by myself, so I couldn't even practice blood pressures on anybody. I was completely alone, but I got through it.

You'll be absolutely fine.:)

Baby steps! They're not going to just throw you into clinicals without a life raft. You go through a few weeks of skills lab and then you have clinical orientation. I had no experience in nursing, hadn't even shadowed a nurse before I got into the program. It's a tough program but I think it's a good program and is definitely worth it. It's alot of work but it's an honor to be admitted into the program and just tell yourself that you can do it!

Have you looked at this program:

From what I understand you sign up and you get instate tuition........as long as you work in MD for a certain period of time.

I plan on doing this program when I graduate from college in NY and hopefully get into Salisbury U for the ASBN. Nursing schools in NY are too cost-prohibitive.

I hope this helps.
