i am in the process of finishing up my pre-reqs to get into nursing school and keep getting asked "what field do you want to specialize in?" well, as of right now everything interests me but the 2 "titles" that i am trying to decide between are nurse practitioner and nurse anesthetist. does anyone have any advice/suggestions of what route to take?
thanks!

Well, it kinda depends on what you want/like to do.

I think when people are asking you what you want to specialize in at this point, they are asking if you want to do ICU, ER, hospice, peds, etc.
I think right now there are soooooooo many choices for you just with the title of RN that you should have more than enough to choose from !

A broad way to think about it is the type of environment in which you want to practice. Do you envision yourself in a hospital setting or in a community setting (doc office, clinic, home health)? I'm going to start NP school this fall and I don't know exactly what I will end up doing, but I do know that I want to work in the community. I'm more laid back, temperamentally, and I also am interested in prevention and patient education, which I think will have a larger place in community health (although of course both are important in acute care too!).
Good luck!

Yep...good points. I don't get excited in a good way when the full codes roll in through the door so I KNOW ER and Acute would not be for me when I grow up. I like to pull up a chair, get to know them and teach them about their meds, prevention, etc.
